Chapter 7: An Old Friend

Matthew and the girls appeared in front of a large cave entrance. Once Caroline touched solid ground, she immediately turned away and started to vomit. "Funny, I thought you'd have a stronger stomach than that." Matthew said as he stepped in the cave and not caring about her wellbeing. Moon waited for Caroline to rehabilitate before following behind him. The cave became darker and darker as they waked on, "Where are we going?" Moon asked. "Don't you ever just shut up and be patient?" he asked sternly, but no answer came. They continued on until they came to a dead end. "Wow, a dead end! That's so freaking amazing!" Moon said sarcastically. Matthew rolled his eyes and pulled a card out of his pocket and held it up in the air. A blue laser shot out of the wall and fell on the card. It scanned the card up and down before disappearing. The wall then started to shake as it split in two and pulled apart. Behind was a large steel door with a control panel installed inside. Moon and Caroline were still in awe as Matthew went over to the control panel and inserted a code. The computer then instructed him to go through e retinal scan and he did. "Welcome Matthew Valtré" the computer said as the door swung open. "Afternoon Liz." He said as he called the girls closer. "Who the hell is Liz?" Caroline asked. "That's the computer's name. Creepy if you ask me, naming a computer, but you'll get used to it."

Inside was a huge laboratory with all kinds of gadgets all over the place. Matthew scanned the room and then cupped is hand around his mouth. "Hey Sebastian, get your ass over here!" A kid in a white lab coat came strolling into the room with a yo-yo in hand. Caroline started to laugh at the sight and struggled to her words out. When she finally calmed down she took a few deep breaths, "Who's this kid? What is he, like ten years old?" Matthew shook his head, "Actually his twelve, and don't be fooled by the way he looks. He's quite the little genius. It's good to see you again Sebastian." Matthew extended his hand and Sebastian shook it. "Likewise Matt, so did you find the crystal?" Matthew took off the backpack he had on and handed it over. Sebastian unzipped it and pulled the crystal, "Holy crap that's a big rock! I heard you had a little trouble with those two operatives." "They weren't so tough, too busy goofing off I'd say." Sebastian snickered as he went through the rest of the contents in the bag. "Sweet, you brought me Twinkies!" "Yeah got them in a decimated shop when I went down south, but on to more serious business, do you think you can do anything with the crystal?" Sebastian inspected the crystal and sighed, "I can try, but I don't have all the info on these things that your brother has." "I don't think that will be a problem." Matthew unsheathed the dagger he got after the attempted assassination and gave it to Sebastian. "Okay then, I'm sure I can do something with this. But you do know about the problem we'll have if I am successful, right?" "I'm well aware of that, but we have to try none the less."

A few hours passed as Sebastian continued with his tests on the crystal with Matthew sitting beside him and observing. The two girls were in the training course honing their skills. They all were interrupted when a loud siren went off. Everyone gathered at the main computer screen to see what the problem was. Sebastian sat in front of the controls and watched the screen, "What seems to be the problem Liz?" The computer then quickly responded, "Intruder alert scans show an unknown figure approaching the base at abnormal speeds." Matthew began to step towards the entrance, "Abnormal speeds huh? It's probably Travis or Jasmine, maybe even both. Moon you come with me. I don't want to have too much of a workout today." She followed him out the door and back towards the cave entrance. "Hey, earlier today you hesitated to hit Caroline even though you had a clear shot. Why didn't you follow through?" "It's simple really; do you know how rare it is for someone to be born with different colored eyes? The last person I knew of with eyes like that was my mother and I guess that when I saw her eyes I saw my mother. But don't think she'll be that lucky next time." Moon nodded in understanding as they stepped into the clearing.

They stood there in silence waiting for whatever was coming their way. But as the time past, no one showed and Matthew knew something wasn't right. "We're being watched..." he gripped his sword as he walked forward and scanned through the trees. Moon was right behind him with a dagger against her hand, just incase she has to cut herself in order to do blood bending. Matthew stopped dead in his tracks when he heard the snapping of a twig. He unsheathed his one sword, "Show yourself, I know you're there!" Then, slowly, a girl came out from behind the trees. They noticed that doglike ears came from under hair on top of her head. Moon just couldn't help but make a comment, "A dog girl huh? So you must be an actual bitch!" "Actually, she's part wolf. It's been a long time since if seen one of their kind." replied Matthew. "I can't believe you don't remember me." the girl said while shaking her head. "No I don't, who are you?" She grinned for a moment, "Maybe this will jog your memory." She tilted her head to the side, dropped her right ear and made a small pout. Matthew's eyes grew wide as he saw this pose, "Holy shit! Ames, is that really you?"

"Well, to be honest with you, neither did I." By now Moon started to feel left out and cleared her throat in order to get recognized. "Oh yeah, Amy this is Moon, she tried to kill me not too long ago." Amy extended her hand, "It's nice to meet you." Moon looked at Amy's hand, but turned around and walked away. "Whatever, let's get going, it's almost dark and I'm hungry." So they set off back to the cave. Once there Matthew introduced Amy to everyone. "So how do you two know each other?" Sebastian asked. Matthew and Amy looked at each other for a short while. Matthew broke the silence as his voice filled the room. "It all started after I found my dead parents..."
