Chapter Forty
It was probably the shortest and longest drive of my life. I was super worried and all I could think about was death. Like how they're going to kill me. Like are they going to stab me or shoot me? Are they going to strangle me or like inject me with a syringe full of poison? They are so many ways to kill someone and I hadn't realized it until now. I'm so not ready to die.
It felt long because I just wanted to get it over with and it just seemed to take forever to get there. I have so many unanswered questions and I'm beyond nervous. I feel my whole body quivering from my nervousness. Thank god I'm in the back and Colin and Ezra can't see me.
When we finally arrive I climb out of the car slowly. I take in a deep breath and stare at the wrecked home. Like it had been hit by a tornado a few times and Superman decided to use it as a punching bag.
There was a little bit of fog surrounding the place so I know that people have fired guns here before and it's not just barbeque smoke. I'm pretty sure that ribs don't smell like sulphur.
Ezra takes my hand and squeezes it, "hey, you want to turn back around and drive home then you can. You know that right?''
I grin or at least try to, "it's fine. I'm not about to let you run into danger without me. I love the adrenaline I get from it,''
"Do you really?''
"Well, a little bit.'' I smirk, "I guess I have a thing for bad boys.''
Ezra smirks but before he could respond Colin clears his throat, "can you guys stop your little love fest and just you know? Try not to get killed,''
We walked towards the house and before we could even knock someone opens the door. A girl in a kimono jacket and I'm pretty sure underneath that she's naked.
I wrinkle my nose a bit and then quickly make sure that I'm smiling like I just enjoy being in a dangerous neighborhood with a psychopath just yards away from me.
"Heyyy,'' she says, she's obviously drunk. She giggles and then she caresses Ezra's arm who quickly pulls away. "What's wrong babe?''
"Where's my father?''
"Father?''
"Graham?''
"Oh,'' she bites her bottom lip, blushing. Ew, gross. "Follow me.''
We reluctantly followed her inside the house. Before I could walk into the living room she grabs my arm, "we're not allowed.''
I cocked an eyebrow at her, "are you serious?''
She shrugs, "come on, I'll show you where the good stuff IS.''
"I rather go in there,''
"I rather you not,'' she glances down at my boobs and it suddenly makes sense. She's jealous and intimidated by me. That's pretty depressing because I'm pretty sure she's at least ten years older than me.
"My boyfriend . . .'' I looked over my shoulder.
"Colin?''
"No-"
"No way, you're going out with Graham's son? How did you land a hottie like him?''
I wrinkled my nose in contempt. Ew, isn't she at least thirty? I can't believe she just called a nineteen-year-old hottie. Even though Ezra is pretty hot.
Before I could respond I heard a gunshot. The lady screams and quickly runs away. Instead of following her lead, I try to test my luck and I go into the living room. I see Mr. Baker shooting at people. I bow down and rush towards Ezra who's doing something with his gun.
I gulp, "what the hell? What happened? Why are you getting shot at?''
Ezra gives me a hard look, "take cover.''
"No, Ez-"
He gets up and walks away but instead of staying put I decide to follow him. I see him shoot at someone and I wince. I can't see Colin anywhere, oh my god is he . . ?
I then feel arms wrap around my throat and I struggle, trying to force the person to free me. I'm then forced against the wall and when I turn around I see Caleb standing before me, grinning. "It's nice seeing you again.''
"What the hell do you want?'' I growl.
He points his gun at me and I freeze. I don't know what to do, I've never been held at gunpoint before.
But before I could think too much into it, I grab his wrist and slam it against the wall. The gun falls out of his hand and I hit his head against the wall and he falls.
Panting I try to walk away but I feel arms wrap around my ankle and I fell and hit my head against the wooden floor (haven't they ever heard of carpet?). My forehead is bleeding.
I try to freeze myself but then Caleb yanks me down and is now lying on top of me and his gun is pressed against my forehead. I breathing heavily, shit, shit, shit, shit.
He then cocks the gun and I'm thinking that this is it, that I'm going to die. That Caleb freaking Baker is going to end my existence.
But before he could fire I hear a crack of a bullet and before I could even breathe Caleb falls on me, gasping for breath and clutching his leg.
I push him off and crawl away and I look up and see Ezra standing before me. "Touch my girlfriend and I will end your existence.''
Caleb laughs, "girlfriend? Interesting.''
What I didn't see was Caleb reaching out for his gun and then he turns around and points it at Ezra. "Say goodbye asshole,''
Ezra looks shocked and I throw myself in front of him and I feel the bullet hit my stomach and I fall and cry in pain.
I'm gasping and I hear gunfire and Caleb screaming and some shuffling around before Ezra rushes towards me and holds me into his arms.
"Shit, Morgan, your bleeding.'' He scooped me up into his arms and then everything goes dark.
