The wind blew the petite blond girl’s hair in her face, making her and her companion laugh, a high, childish laugh. The small girl smiled at the six year old boy in front of her, giving him a toothy grin, though he was missing the top left front tooth. The little girl had an idea, and ran away from her friend, giggling.
"Catch me if you can!" she yelled, running around the garden, barely missing a servant as she ran. The little Prince followed behind her, waiting for the right time to catch her. He watched her long blond hair fly out behind her, hear the softness of her footsteps, and could hair her giggling; she wasn't giving up.
The little Prince stopped following his friend and thought about how beautiful her smile was, and how she laugh while she ran towards his room, crawling under his bed. She let out a soft sigh and giggled. She felt something soft tickle her skin and slowly turned her head, the smile dropping from her face when she saw the spider, and screamed. The little Prince ran towards his friend, the servants following closely. He rounded the corner to find Emma, jumping out from under his bed and ran over to him, throwing her small arms around his neck. He caught her, losing his balance.
“Cal, it was huge,” she sobbed, her head in the crook of his neck.
“I know, I know,” Calix said, patting his best friends back as a way of comfort. The rest of the servants smiled, some of them letting an ‘aw’ here and there. Calix heard them and sent them a glare and they scurried off, leaving him with Emma.
“But Cal, it was huge!” she said between hiccups. He focused his attention on her, his expression softening.
He said, “Come on Emmy-Wemmy, let’s go watch TV.” Emma nodded and he took her hand in his, pulling her towards the spacious living room. Calix pulled Emma over to the over-stuffed couch and jumped up, helping Emma up. She smiled at Calix, tear stains running down her cheeks. Cal wiped away the tears and kissed her on the cheek.
“Everything is going to be okay. I will never let anything hurt you,” he whispered. Emma blushed and averted her eyes to the television screen, the yellow sponge called Sponge-Bob on the screen. She giggled slightly.
The little Prince took his best friends hands, and wrapped them in his own.
“Emmy-Wemmy, let’s promise each other something,” he said, his storm grey eyes on her.
Emma turned her head towards him and furrowed her brows, confused. She said, “What kind of promise?”
“Promise me, we’ll get married when we’re older,” Calix said. He looked into her hazel eyes, completely serious about what he was asking.
“I promise,” Emma said, and hugged Calix as he wrapped his arms around her small frame. She smiled into his chest and she could feel it rumbled, the cause was his chuckle.
A knock sounded at the door and they turned to the maid that stood there, her head bowed in respect.
“Prince Calix, Ms. Emma parents are calling for her,” the maid said. Her grey-white hair was pulled up at the top of her head, her warm green eyes staring at the two children on the couch.
Calix turned his attention towards Emma and asked, “Want me to come with you?” He grinned, showing off the missing tooth.
“Yeah,” Emma replied, smiling back at Calix.
Calix jumped off the couch first and held Emma’s waist as she jumped down, her dress flying out around her, her hair frazzled from their earlier game. Emma took Calix’s hand and walked out, the maid following them.
They walked towards Calix’s father’s office, where they heard voices and crying. Emma took her hand away and pushed through the door, entering the large room with the many books and papers. Emma’s mother was crying and Emma ran over to her, jumping on her lap.
“Mummy, what’s wrong?” Emma cried, more tears threatening to spill. Her mother took a deep breath and spoke.
“We’re moving.” Emma felt her heart break. Moving? She had to leave Calix? But she couldn’t, this was her home. She had promised Calix something, and she didn’t plan on breaking it.

Emma sat in the back seat of their car, watching Calix cry and reach out for her, but she didn’t move; she couldn’t. She had tears streaming down her own face, and she knew she would never forget about that promise. Calix will always be in her heart, whether he knew it or not.
