The bright morning sun shone in Riley's eyes as she looked out the window of her grandma's car. Her head was leaned on one of her hands lazily as she watched trees and people walking at the side of the road whoosh passed her.

"Are you gonna be okay at school?" Riley turned her head to look at the old woman in the driver's seat. She was quite a small woman, heavily clashing with her cold demeanor and no nonsense attitude.

Like you care.. Riley thought, but decided to stay tame despite the fact that she knew the old woman resented her for being born.

"Uh, yup. I'll be.." She turned my attention back to the closed window, not excited for her first day of at a public school, at all. "Fantastic." Riley briefly closed her eyes, but quickly opened them again.

The haunting memories of her parents, sat completely limp and pale in a destroyed car would always burn in her mind, similarly to a lit fire. Lost in her thoughts, Riley didn't realize how quickly she and her grandmother had reached their destination of the nearest public school.

"Hello? Time to get out, kid." The wrinkly little lady frowned at Riley, "Gotta go get you situated, I think." They both climbed out of the shiny car, and made their way through the crowded parking lot. Riley shyly followed her grandma through the school entrance, trying to ignore the prying eyes she could feel on herself.

Grandma led Riley to the front office, where a nice looking guy with a ring on his finger sat in the desk chair. Riley weakly smiled at the guy before the old lady and him started talking. Riley, nervously fiddled with her fingers, before a paper was pushed into her hands by her grandma.

"Have a good day." The lady said coldly, before hobbling away.

Riley pursed her lips in disapproval as grandma walked away, before awkwardly waving at the front desk dude. He silently waved back.

Riley looked over the paper, quickly realizing it was a schedule of some kind. "Oh, um.." She softly murmured, but was suddenly interrupted by a voice beside her.

"What did you say?" Riley spun around in surprise. A boy with light brown hair stared at her with a blank face, and she couldn't help but notice how attractive he was. She silently cursed herself for quickly judging someone by their looks like that.

"Oh, um. I was just muttering to myself.." Riley tried to smile but it just came off as her baring her teeth, without any of the happy she was going for.

But to her surprise, the boy smiled sweetly back.

"Ah. My mistake."
