B always knows when I'm not feeling myself. She notices that I'm not really smiling. I'm always smiling outside, but I'm not smiling inside. When she hits me I don't call her a funny name or hit back either. After school we went to B's house. I still haven't told. B pushed me down into an armchair in her sitting room and widened her eyes. I don't know what that means.
"Spill." B urged.
"Spill what? I'm not holding anything." I frowned.
"No, tell me what happened." she rolled her eyes.
"You want story time?" I asked and she nodded. "Okay, once upon a time there was a girl named Nelissa. She had a poorly hand and Mike went to help her fix it. Then after Nelissa went to write a letter to her daddy. She was in a diner. But before she could start two boys called Mike and Vic came in. They shouted a lot and Nelissa hid a lot. Then it was getting all fisty and Nelissa got all jumpy. Nelissa saved the day and Mike told her he liked her. But then he walked in on Vic and Nelissa all close and told Nelissa some bad things and made her cry." I explained.
"That idiot!" B exclaimed. "That... That... Thing!" B sat on the arm of the chair and pulled me in for a hug. Her hugs are all warm and cuddly like a teddy bear. I'm the only person she hugs. That's why they make me feel special. "Okay," B breathed. "I am taking you out."
"What?" I groaned. "I don't want to."
"No, we are. Go put on a push up bra and a pair of heels." B ordered. I sighed and sulked upstairs. I didn't really want to go. I just wanted to forget what happened. But I did as she said. The heels are black with tiny spikes on them. Maybe I'll see Mike, I could do with some stress relief and these things have got to hurt if they're kicked in your knee or face. Or anywhere really.
When I was ready B took me to a street full of bars. She took me inside a bar that I know. B actually knows the owner. That's how we can get in and get drinks. But as I looked around the place I spotted someone who despite what I said earlier I really didn't want to see. Mike was sitting at a table with Jaime and Tony. We got our drinks and I couldn't help going over.
"Mike," I tried. Nothing. "Please." I begged. Again nothing. It was like I didn't even exist. I poked myself to make sure. Yeah, defiantly real. Tony and Jaime just smiled guiltily at me. B took me to sit down but I could still see Mike. I could still hear every word coming from that table. Aren't I lucky.
I drank. I drank. I drank. Then I drank some more. I don't know why. It seemed pretty important that I drank all of the beer though. "Mike, man," I heard Jaime say. I turned and looked. Underneath the table I felt B take my hand. She knows. "You're on your forth drink and you've had three shots." Jaime sighed.
"Back off." Mike snapped.
"I know you're upset and angry, but fuck. Why are you taking it out on us? We're the ones that are here with you." Tony said gently. I've never heard Tony curse before. It feels all dirty and wrong.
"I don't know why it's so hard tonight," Jaime said slowly. "You've known about them ever since you saw them in the park that night." I froze. The park. He's known since the park, in September. Now I really want to kill him.
I got up and marched over to their table. "Say it again!" I snapped.
"Um what?" Jaime swallowed hard.
"Um what." B mocked him. She's good at that.
"The park. Are you serious?"
"Yeah." Tony nodded. The one person I wanted to talk to though was being rather silent.
"Mike you've just made me cry, taken everything out on me, gained ten pounds through food therapy. I'll be fat! Do you want me fat?!" I exclaimed. He looked scared. "You've gotten so mad to make me feel like shit and you knew all along!"
"Don't." Mike said through gritted teeth.
"Don't hit him," B said casually. "That'll mean paper work in the emergency room and the bastard isn't worth it."
"I thought you were defending him for his benefit for a second there." Jaime said.
"Don't be silly," B grinned. "Why would I defend this idiot?"
"Mike," I said and he looked at me. His eyes were wide and flitting around, making sure he didn't miss anything. "Honestly right now you disgust me. I can't even look at you... You.... Cock head!" I exclaimed and turned. Marching right out of the bar.
