Its only a string that ties a life from death. A scarlet thread that can so easily break. And when it does, its an unbearable pain. A horror so dark that only the dead can tell of its misfortune.

Such was Chikondi's fate. Every breath felt like a knife to her chest. The blood stained on her body sent a cold chill down her spine. Too weak to even muster the strength to fight back this agent of death, shivering to the core. A gasp for air, now a burden, as breathing became harder and harder with every breath. Her life seemed to slip away, vanish before her eyes... She was dying...

Or so she thought. She opened her eyes and saw a blade, running all the way up from her neck, stained with blood. But the blood wasn't hers. She looked at her body, searched it to find the fatal wound but it a wasn't there. All she had was a cut on her left cheek and shoulder, not too deep, and a torn, blood stained dress.

'I'm... I'm alive?' She asked herself. 'But... But how? I was sure I was going to die... '

Then she returned to reality and remembered the blade that was so close to her. She looked forward and saw the whisper, probably a couple of feet away, throwing an angry fit. Its left hand, dangling from a piece of flesh on its shoulder, blood pouring out of it. It seemed agitated to the bone, its glowing, devil red eyes reflecting on the stained blade before her. Its growl became louder and its intent to kill showed ever greater. It was truly a mindless beast at this point.

Fear visited her again as she looked upon that horrifying beast. A sudden flare from the blade, reflecting the moonlight, shifted Chikondi's gaze upward. Before her stood a male figure, strong and confident. His face, covered by a black face mask, and his body, covered in a fine, long, black leather jacket.

'Are you alright?'

'Huh...?'

'Are you hurt?'

'Aahhh... I-I don't think so... ' Chiko searched her body just to make sure.

'Pick your friend up and go.'

'Huh?' Chikondi was a little lost. So overwhelmed by the whole situation, she couldn't immediately understand what was being told to her.

'Listen... He doesn't have much time. You need to get him medical help ASAP. I'll keep this thing at bay long enough for you to get away.'

It was at that moment when Chiko remembered her dying lover laying on the side. Her heart began to break as she watched Maxwell fight for every breath, trying to stay alive. She sat, bursting into tears. All the pain and sorrow she felt that left her frozen and hopeless returned to her.

A loud call to her brought her back to the present. A loud commanding voice that echoed in her soul, forcing her to comply.

'CHIKONDI!!'

Chikondi turned to her help. Her distressed state went away as soon as they locked eyes. A sense of comfort came over her as she looked into those glowing, vibrant eyes, colour of emerald green. He too was a whisper but he seemed different from the rest.

'HEY!'

'H-huh...?' Chiko's line of thought was disturbed. Now fully attentive for some reason.

'Get going! It's not like he is giving you a head start or anything, MOVE!'

With that, Chiko got up and made her way to Maxwell. She dragged him by his shoulders, taking great care not to hurt him in the process. As soon as she was out of sight, the two whispers were ready to began their brutal fight.

Chikondi could hear the powerful blows and bashes of the two assailants as she dragged Max to the glass door that led to the restaurant. She actually focused on that noise, trying to predict who got hit and who might be winning. It kept her focused for some reason, avoiding the unwanted, depressing thoughts.
