'AHHHHH! DAMN IT! LATE AGAIN!'
It was a bright Thursday morning, Mercy as energetic as ever to start out her day.
'Wow... Relax girl, take a chill pill.'
'Oh I am more than relaxed here Karl.'
'Doesn't seem like it. You're acting like its YOUR boyfriend in the hospital bed, not your friend's.'
'Well Max is kinda like a brother to Frank so it kinda makes him like my brother in a way.'
'Oh... I see... So you're visiting him so Frank can like you more, clever girl.' A sarcastic smile followed after she said this.
'Don't you DARE push my buttons Karl, not right now.'
'Okay okay, I'm sorry. Don't blow up in my face princess.'
'Good. Now, I better get going.'
Mercy hurriedly made her way to the door, picking up her black high heel booties from the corner. She push her right hand against the door as she wore her leather footwear.
'Uhmmm... So need a lift little sis?'
At that moment, Mercy paused and glared at her sister, as though a giant spout of nonsense was steadily escalating from Karl's throat. A premonition of some sort. She stood there for a while, just looking as her sister made breakfast.
'Well? Do you need one?'
'Mmmhhh... No, I'll take the bus I always take in the morning.'
'You mean the one that left twenty minutes ago while you were trying to figure out what makeup to put on? Yeah, its LONG GONE.'
'I use a mini bus or Noah cab then.'
'What? Oh no, we can't have that.'
'Well I don't care, I'm going.'
'Well you should. You look and feel good and... You aren't exactly known for being nice and friendly in tight spaces.'
'your point?'
Mercy now crossed her arms, as though they were a fail safe for her growing agitation. Karl got up and walked up to her sister.
'Look, I just don't want the expensive perfume my sister spent so long to put on to woe some bastard or get rubbed off on a random street person. And besides, someone has to keep you kids in check, I care about Maxi too. Come on, what could go wrong? I'll just take you to the hospital, see him for like five minutes and I'm off. Got other things to do anyway.'
'(Sigh) Fine... But a minute is all I give you with him.'
'Yes ma'am.'
With that, Karl picked up her keys from the living room table and the two were off.
In room 203, Frank sat by the open window, watching over his best friend. From time to time he would look out the window, into the clouds and get lost in his own thoughts. This was supposed to be the happiest month of the year, right? Then why were these things happening? How did things go so wrong? Could it be a sign? Some sort of bad omen? Or maybe its a warning? Are things only going to get worse or better from here on? These questions would run to and fro in Frank's mind. Then he would come back, as if he awoke from a bad dream, and fix his gaze on Max. When he felt all was well, he would return to his unanswered questions.
A soft knock on the blue hospital door broke the cycle. Frank looked over and saw Mercy come in, Karl standing at the door.
'Hey Frankie... You okay?'
