I was sitting down on the floor, looking through the tick glass window. Staring at the beautiful lights floating around, and a little further... Earth, so magical and full of color. I still don't understand how our people could have ruined their home.
I felt someone touching my shoulder, when I looked back, it was my brother calling me for dinner. My brother Jake as always taken care of me from the day I was born, since I was ripped away from our mother's arms right that second. Here in the Ark there is a law that says that you can only have one child, so the oxigen lasts longer for everyone. But, as I said, I have a brother, so my mother was floated for breaking the law, for having me. I still feel like it was my fault.
We walked to the cafeteria together, but he seemed kinda nervous. He kept looking at me like he was about to say something, but then he didn't. After we grabbed our food and sat down, he started looking at me, again, while nervously tapping his finger on the table. Finally I had had enough and said:
- Just spill it out already!
He looked at me:
- So umm, you know how mom was floated the day you were born... Well, there is something I haven't told you.
- What do you mean there is something you haven't told me?! - I said angrily.
- Look Maddie, even though I was a child, they still blamed me, and said that it should have been my duty to tell them about the "crime". They didn't do anything at the time, but they said they would, once I turn 18, and umm.. (his eyes started watering)
- Your birthday is next week... ( as I said that I looked at the ground, and all that guilt I felt after my brother told me what had happend to my mother come rushing back, all over again. How could it be possible that two persons, two lives are being taken because of me...)
A tear started falling down my face as my brother got closer to hug me. He cleaned the tear from my face with his sleave and wispered in my ear:
- It's okay baby sister, we got this, we always do. I will never leave you alone. Just you and me, like I promised.
