"Stay?"
"Why not? I mean we've had a bit of a shock, adrenaline still pumping and your car's a write off"
"But I can...."
"Yes I know you could get a taxi but I don't want you to. I want you here with me. You and Emma here with us"
"I don't know Fletch"
"Jac" he held her shoulders lightly and looked into her eyes "how much time did we waste dancing around each other and being too scared to just jump in and take a chance"
"You present a solid argument Mr Fletcher" she smiled shyly "as long as the kids and particularly Ella are ok with us staying. Any doubt and I go home"
"Deal" he said and kissed the top of her head
They made their way back into the living room where everyone was chattering about the crash. Jac had managed to rescue Emma's toy pig Sarah before they towed her car away
"Sarah!" Emma exclaimed "look Ella this is who I was telling you about. I can definitely stay over now I've got Sarah"
Jac and Fletch raised their eyebrows at each other
"Somebody mind telling me what's going on?" Fletch asked
"Daddy" said Ella "Jac's car's broken so they can't go home. Emma is going to stay in my room"
"Is she now?"
Ella looked at Fletch and gave him a look of exasperation
"Well duh. Of course they have to stay"
She and Emma slipped off giggling.
Fletch smiled warmly and squeezed Jac's hand
"Ella's happy again" he whispered
Jac didn't reply just squeezed his hand back but inside she was heaving sighs of relief. She knew that Fletch loved her but if one of the kids was unhappy with this she wouldn't make him choose she would just bow out, but it appeared that this just might work out for once. A traitorous tear escaped her eye. Fletch, of course noticed and quickly wiped it away with his thumb.
"Ok?" He whispered
"I'm fine honestly, just pleased that it looks as though this" she gestured round the room and finally to him. She laid her hand on his chest "is going to work out"
Fletch drew her into a famous Fletcher hug
"I never doubted it for a minute" he kissed the top of her head
"Now, as you're staying, and not driving, I suggest we share a bottle of wine and then I'll take you to bed and have my wicked way with you. What do you say? "
Jac laughed "I say you are an idiot but lead the way"
