The waiter placed my coffee and food down in front of me and gave me a smile. I smiled back politely. Jack had already dug into his sandwich as the waiter walked away.

"You wanna know what happened today?" I asked enthusiastically.

I watched as he glanced up from his phone and shrugged. He briefly met my eyes and darted them away.

"Not really."

My eyebrows knit together in confusion. He wasn't one to be mad or annoyed so it struck me as somewhat odd. Jack was always smiling his perfect smile that made his chocolate brown eyes light up in the most stunning way. It was a smile where I greedily wanted to see the corners of his eyes crinkle.

But this Jack, the one who was tightly clenching his jaw—making him look intimidating and serious—was not that common. His brown eyes grew a dark shade, clouding his features.

I knew better than to annoy him more. An intimidating Gilinsky was not a sight to see. Sure, it was somewhat sexy to see his jaw clenched and his eyebrows look smug, but Jack was not one to take things lightly.

"Okay." I murmured softly, averting my gaze from his as he looked up and stared at me intensely.

I shifted slightly in my chair, my skin tickling under his hard eyes.

"What? Are you hurt that I actually didn't want to hear it today? Please. Not everything is about you." He scoffed.

He set his fork down with a loud clank. I flinched at the sudden impact. I looked around at the eyes that grew on his actions. I wasn't too keen on having attention.

"Sorry, am I embarrassing you?" Jack mused.

I looked at him as he put a fry in his mouth. He was waiting for my reaction and honestly, I don't know what my initial reaction was. I knew something was wrong, he was upset and I wasn't sure why. I didn't want to add fire for no reason, I wanted my baby to be happy.

I shook my head and visibly gulped. I turned away from his eye roll and grabbed a little creamer cup. I opened it and poured it into my steaming hot mug. Forgetting about G glaring at me, I watched in utter fascination as the light rich cream danced in the black of my coffee.

"Because you're embarrassing me." He interjected.

I sighed slightly, eating my food.

The rest of our lunch was spent in silence, and not a comfortable one. Gilinsky was obviously mad for no apparent reason. He snuck glances at me and scoffed every once in a while. My mind was paranoid. After we had both finished eating, we got up and Jack paid for our meal.

I thanked him and he shrugged in annoyance. Water prickled my eyes, but not a tear was shed. I blinked back my outburst.

The waiter that served us, smiled at me and Jack. I politely gave him a watery smile that didn't quite reach my eyes.

"For fuck sakes. You know what garbage boy? You can have her. I'm sure she wants you just the same." Jack growled.

My eyes widened and I was taken back by his sharp words. Without a word, I took hold of Gilinsky's hand and led him out of the restaurant.

So that's what this is about. The waiter. I swallowed back my accusation.

"Let go of my fucking hand!" Jack hissed.

He harshly jerked his hand out of my grasp and stalked past me to the car. I swallowed back my words, tempted to break. I silently followed after him and got in the passenger side.
