Regan ran like she had never run before, desperately ignoring the burn in her chest as she leapt over one of the streams.
One of the glowing spears that had been relentlessly swarming after her grazed the side of her pant leg as she landed, and the action elicited her orange SOUL to appear in front of her chest.
"Shit." Regan cursed breathlessly, and found the courage to turn over her shoulder as she zipped around a corner.
She caught the glimpse of a suit of armor sprinting after her until her gaze was cut off, and continued her escape toward a clearing full of the glowing flowers.
Regan was cut off by another one of the glowing spaces on the ground, and leapt back to avoid being skewered. A gasp broke from her lips as she whipped around, and finally she was face to face with the monster that had been chasing her.
"What do you want?" Regan demanded, taking a cautious step back as the monster stared her down.
"Seven human souls," they said menacingly. "Seven human souls and Asgore will become a god. Six. That's how many we've collected thus far. Understand? Through your seventh and final soul, this world will be transformed."
"You have got to be kidding me." Regan muttered, hands clenching into fists as the monster removed their helmet; revealing a blue fish head and a long red ponytail.
"You're standing in the way of everybody's hopes and dreams," she said, pointing her formulated spear in Regan's direction. "Your existence is a crime."
Regan watched as the fish monster tossed the spear, and — taking a chance — Regan ran towards it and dropped to her knees at the last minute. Her back bent backwards and grazed the ground just as the spear flew overhead, and lifted herself back up once she dodged the monster's attack.
The monster looked taken aback by that and faltered in her stance for a moment, looking Regan up and down as she grabbed the dull scissors form her bag.
"Huh," they scoffed, grinning to display her sharp teeth. "You've got some moves, I'll admit. But that won't be enough to save you!"
Regan squeaked as yet another spear was launched in her direction. Her head jerked to the side just in time to avoid the fatal blow, however she wasn't quick enough to escape the slit the tip of the spear cut into her cheek.
Blood spat from the wound, eliciting Regan to slap a hand over it as she flinched. Her eyes squinted as she took in the sting, however she didn't let the small injury stop her from dancing around the spears the fish monster continued to attack her with.
Her continuous dance with death lasted for what felt like an eternity until the monster let up, clearly agitated with her mediocre hits to Regan's body. A few scrapes and scratches were slit into her arms and legs, and she had managed to cut another spot on her cheek, but nothing more than a few minor wounds were inflicted during their fifteen minute encounter.
"Would you just sit still?!" She demanded irritably, throwing her hands up in the air. "There's no way you're going to get out of this alive, so why don't you just give up already?"
"That's not how I was raised," Regan huffed simply, wiping a droplet of blood off of her chin. "You can try all you want, but I'm not going down without giving you hell."
Regan's SOUL pulsated as she spoke, and the action made the fish monster scoff again. She appeared to be at a loss for words.
"Not once have I met even a monster as brave as you are," she commented whilst looking down momentarily. "That's admirable, but what kind of Royal Guard would I be if I just let you go?"
