"You must be Davina!" a woman who looked to be in her 40's approached as I stepped out of the taxi that had driven me to my new foster home.
"That's me," I gave her a small smile as she beamed with excitement.
"I'm Alison," she started, giving my hand a small shake. "How was your flight dear?"
"It wasn't bad, trying to get a cab at the airport was kind of a disaster though," I chuckled nervously, scratching the back of my head.
Back in California I just walked or biked everywhere I went. Getting a cab was nearly impossible, and the roads were always so busy anyway, walking was just faster.
"My husband was going to pick you up but I'm afraid the truck broke down on his way there, he's waiting on a tow truck now," she sighed, seeming a tad bit stressed, though she quickly brushed it off. "How about I show you around?"
I gave her a smile as the taxi driver unloaded my 2 small suitcases and set them on the porch. "I'd like that."
I paid the driver the little money I had saved up from working a part time job, and left my belongings on the porch as Alison took me inside. I had to admit, the house was gorgeous. I tried not to yet too excited as she showed me where everything was. After a quick tour of the downstairs area, we winded up in the living room where I'm could only assume her sons were scattered about chatting.
"Alright kiddos, listen up," they all turned their attention to us at the sound of their mothers request.
I kept my attention focused on her, nervous at the amount of eyes on me right now.
"You are all aware we were having a young woman come stay with us for a while. Boys, this is Davina," the room was silent for a moment as they all seemed to study me.
Nervous, I gave a wave but stayed silent. That was until I was bombarded by two small sized humans.
"Will you play with us?"
"You're pretty!"
"Are you staying here forever?"
"Do you like trucks?"
"Xander! Xavier! Leave that poor girl alone, you're going to overwhelm her!" Alison scolded the young boys who quickly apologized and gave me some breathing room.
Not wanting them to be upset, I crouched down to their level, tucking my hair behind my ear.
"I can play with you two when I get unpacked, thank you, I'll be here for a while I hope," I paused, not wanting to be sent back yet again. "And I do like trucks."
The boys grinned ear-to-ear at my answers, causing a smile to break out of my face as I stood up again.
"Well, you've met the twins," Alison laughed. "These are my other 4. That's Jackson, Anthony, Issac, and Austin," she pointed each boy out as she said their names. "They can all be a little much sometimes, but they're a great help," she said teasingly.
The room erupted with "heys" and "how are you's" as the boys spoke at the same time.
"Issac, would you be a dear and get Davina's stuff off the porch? And Anthony, could you show her to her room?"
"Can we go with them, Aunty Ally?" Xander asked Alison, a pleading look in his eyes.
"I don't mind," I told her, sensing her hesitation.
"If Davina's okay with it, that's fine, but don't bombard her, boys," she gave them a stern look and they nodded in response before standing beside me.
