I woke up to Caroline shaking me gently."Did you get some?" she asked, eyeing my sleeping attire.
I went from sleepy to wide awake after hearing that, shooting upright in my bed.
"No, no, it's not like that!" I panicked. "I forgot clothes when I showered last night, Jackson loaned me a shirt."
Her brows raised. "Jackson, huh?" she teased.
"It's not like that, Care. I swear! He just lent me a shirt so I didn't have to run down the hall in a towel."
She sat beside on me bed. "Girl, it's okay if you like him, he's a Bryant boy after all, good looks run in their blood."
"I- I don't like him!" Well, that denial was too fast. "I mean, ugh," I groaned, falling back against my pillow.
"You so do," she grinned, teasing me.
"I don't know, okay?" I exclaimed, taking a breath. "I've not been close to anyone in a very long time. Of course I like him, I just don't know in what way," I elaborated, and she seemed to inhale this information.
"Well, the good news is you have plenty of time to figure that out," she hopped out of my bed and went to look at herself in the mirror.
"How'd things go with Issac?" I asked, aiming the spotlight on her.
She couldn't hide the grin on her face if she tried. "He's so sexy," she gushed. "And he's so sweet too, he's like a walking God!"
We spent the next 20 minutes discussing the guys and getting to know each other a little more before I realized I had to go to the bathroom.
"I'll be back," I told her, amusement still on my face at a joke she made.
She nodded, not straying from her spot on my bed with a can of Pringles in her hand, scrolling through her phone. I shut my door and began walking down the hall, when a voice spoke from behind me.
"You look good in my shirt," Jackson hummed, causing my heart to race.
I whipped around to face him, thankful that the hall light wasn't on and he couldn't see that my face was totally red.
"I uh- I'll give it back, I just haven't changed yet," he cut me off by laughing.
"I'm just giving you crap, Vina," he smirked, coming closer. "It's all yours."
I tried to hide my nerves as his hand caressed my cheek before he leaned close to my ear. "I could get used to seeing you in my clothes."
His words sent chills down my spine, but he didn't give me time to react before he stalked off down the hall, out of sight. I stood there, stunned for a few moments before my bladder decided to remind me what I was doing. I finished my business and hurried back to my bedroom, Caroline looking startled as I shoved my door shut and leaned my back against it. She quirked a brow at me, waiting for me to explain, and I did, in a way.
-
"He's totally into you!" she squealed, and I quickly shh'ed her, not wanting anyone to hear walking in the hall. "Sorry."
"He could just be being a hormonal boy, I mean guys do that don't they? Most of them flirt with anything that has legs," I paused. "Sometimes it doesn't even matter how many!"
She looked at me with an annoyed expression.
"Jackson doesn't seem to be the guy who flirts with anyone with legs, Vina."
"Well, he also reminds me of my brother in some ways, isn't that weird?" I asked her.
"What type of ways?"
"I don't know, they have personality traits that are a lot alike. They show they care, their protective, generous, sweet-"
"Those are good personality traits for anyone to have, would you rather him be an asshole?" she asked, already knowing my answer.
I bit my lip and shook my head.
"Well there you go. You know he likes you," she seemed proud of the idea that she might be right.
"We still don't know that for sure," she rolled her eyes, but I continued anyway. "Plus, I don't know how I feel about him."
"Well, it's a good thing you'll be living down the hall from him for at least 5 months."
-
"Thanks for letting me stay with you guys," Caroline said to Alison and Steven.
"We were happy to have you dear, you're welcome anytime," Alison was such a sweet woman, and I was definitely grateful for her entering my life.
"Remember to text me," Caroline said, wagging her eyebrows at me.
Caroline gave me an old phone of hers, she wanted to be up to date on Jackson and I at all times.
I laughed, giving her a hug goodbye. "I will, don't be a stranger!"
Issac kept his distance, not wanting his mom to know we lied, and simply blew her a kiss when they weren't watching. We watched as she pulled out of the driveway before we all decided to head inside.
"I like her," I grinned, talking to Issac as I opened the front door.
"She's sweet, for sure," he responded, though he didn't seem too enthusiastic.
"But?" I pushed, already knowing it was coming.
"I don't know, she just gets to be too much sometimes."
My heart ached for Caroline, hearing his words, but I was hoping maybe things are just bumpy right now.
"It'll be alright though, I'm sure things will go back to normal soon," he continued.
Instead of responding, I simply nodded my head.
"You wanna watch a movie?" he asked, looking at me.
I thought it over for a moment. "Eh, sure, why not."
He smiled at my answer and we made ourselves comfortable on the couch. I wasn't sure what movie he was playing, but didn't bother asking either. Issac tossed me a blanket that I spread over my body, and said he'd be back with some popcorn. True to his word, he returned 3 minutes later with a bowl, massively overfilled with the movie snack.
-
"You didn't tell me this was a horror movie," I shrieked, plummeting under my blanket.
He erupted in laughs, getting a kick out of my fright.
"I thought I'd surprise you," I popped my head out from under the blanket just in time to see him wink at me.
"You're an ass," I mumbled, calming down once more.
"Get used to it, babe."
Babe.
Babe.
Babe.
That word echoed in my head for ages as I tried to refocus myself on the movie. Maybe it slipped out? It had to of, right? It meant nothing. He's with Caroline, he's just teasing. Yeah, yeah, that has to be it.
