Dates and doubts (Mel's Pov)

When I go to sleep I dream about ben and rosie. "Wakey wakey, mel. Class starts soon." Faith wakes me up. "I'm awake, I'm just trying not to be right now." I tell her. "When did ben say the date was again?" She asks and I sit up. "After school today." I reply and start to get dressed. "Ha, you got up for your date with ben. He really got you hard didn't he?" I roll my eyes and toss my pj's in the hamper. The day goes by with only minor problems, by that I mean audrey and her gang go out of their way to inconvenience me at any chance they get. "Don't let audrey throw off your groove bonita." Kurt tells me as we walk down the hall to my room. "She's just being extra salty today, and trust me, if she's the princess of anything it's salt." Nate adds. "Hmm, princess salt, I like it." I muse with a grin. 

Just as we're getting to the door evie opens it and snatches me inside. "Alright Mi-Mi, let's get started." She tells me and sits me down on the bed. "Light blush, lip gloss, a tiny bit of mascara, and a splash of eye shadow." She lists as she goes along. "Now for clothes." She adds and spins me around so I'm facing my closet. "This black blouse." Ulyssia says holding it up. "This mini skirt." Trin says holding up a black mini skirt. "This jacket." Faith says holding up a purple leather jacket. "And these shoes." Mal says holding up my favorite pair of heels. "Now go get changed." evie tells me and shoves me behind the privacy screen with the outfit. When I come out dressed in the clothes evie gave me, the girls, bar mal, start to squeal. "You look so pretty little sis. Are you sure you want to go through with this though?" Mal asks. "Why wouldn't I Mal? Besides maybe now you can follow my lead with a certain long haired boy whose name starts with j." I tease her. "Pfft, you get asked on one date and suddenly you're the expert." She jokes. "Now we should let the boys in so they can see how you look." She adds and gestures for evie to open the door and the boys filter in and give their compliments.

There's a knock at the door and kurt opens it. "Hey lover boy." He greets and lets ben in. "Mel, you look...Beautiful." He tells me with that dopey smile. "Thanks, you look pretty nice yourself." I reply. "Are you ready?" He asks holding a hand out for me to take. "Yeah, where are we going?" I ask taking his hand. "It's a surprise." He answers. "Bring her home at a reasonable time, and don't break her heart." Mall tells him. "Use protection." Nate teases and trin elbows him in the side. He leads me to his scooter and we get on. He drives to a forest and we walk over a bridge, carrying on a conversation the whole way. We get to the end of the bridge and he covers my eyes. Leading me the rest of the way to our date. He uncovers my eyes and I take in the scene around me. "This place is amazing." I say in awe. "I'm glad you like it, come on, I packed a picnic." He tells me as he walks over to a little broken gazebo. 

He and I sit down and I zero in on a bowl of cherries. "Are those fresh cherries?" I ask and he nods. I pick one up and bite into it. "Mmm, they're even better than I imagined." I muse and ben looks at me in surprise. "Is this your first time eating cherries?" He asks and I nod and take another bite. "Watch out then, they have pits." He warns. I nod, put the stem and pit down, and pick up a jelly donut. I moan in delight at the taste. Ben chuckles and gestures to his cheek. "You've got a little something..." I try and wipe off my cheek but can't seem to figure out where it is. "Here, let me." He says and brushes his thumb over the right corner of my mouth. I blush and he smiles. "Guess you can't take me anywhere." I joke and he grins. "I'm gonna go swimming, did you want to?" He asks. "No I'll stay up here." I reply and he shrugs and goes to the other side of the lake.

He does a cannonball into the lake and I sit on the picnic blanket and think about everything. Melrose's memories, mother's attempts to get off the island, mal's attempts to get mother to approve of her, Ben and the friends I've made here. I realize I haven't been hearing ben swimming. I panic slightly and stand in order to see him. "Ben?! Ben?!" I shout as I take off my jacket and get in the water. I start to drown and suddenly ben picks me up bridal style and sets me back on the ground. "You don't know how to swim?" He asks looking into my eyes. I shake my head. "But you live on an island..." "Surrounded by a barrier." I sass with a deadpan expression. "Yet you still tried to save me." He says. "Of course." I reply as he gets out and puts both mine and his jacket on me. 

"Here, a wishing rock. I found it; you just make a wish and throw it back in." He says handing me a shiny rock. I wish to stay in auradon and be with ben and not have my mother's plan work, then toss it in the lake as far out as possible. We go back and he walks me to mal's door. "I had a great time." I tell him with a smile. "I'm glad to hear that, maybe we could do it again sometime." He replies. "I'd like that." He smiles, leans in, and kisses me on the cheek. "Goodnight Mel, sweet dreams." He says and then walks away. My heart twinges as I watch him go and when he turns the corner, I go into mal's room. "How was it?" Evie asks. "It was wonderful, I loved it, but..." I waver slightly. "But what? Did he hurt you?" Mal asks getting up and looking me over. "No!" I exclam. "He better not have." She says crossing her arms.

"It's just, I feel terrible knowing that he's under a love spell. I'd never think that the reason for my first real date was because of a love spell." I explain glumly. "Oh mels, I'm sorry for roping you in like this. I should've thought of something else." She says and hugs me tightly. "You can make it up to me by asking out jay." I sniffle. "Cute, except I haven't been honest with you. Jay and I have been going out since a few weeks before we came here." Mal tells me as she leads me to her bed. "Also, you're young and you're pretty. You've got endless lines of people waiting to try and win your heart." She assures me as she sits me down. 

"Mal, I feel something, something I felt the moment he and I met and I don't know how to explain it...It's like something that connects the two of us. I just, I know it's stupid but he's different and I don't want the endless lines of people if he's near me." I rant. "It sounds like you are falling in love." Evie inputs. "No! I can't be, mother will be so disappointed in me-" "Mels, you don't have to worry about her right now. Your family here is going to support you no matter what you say or do." She comforts. "Mal is right and I'm pretty sure the boys will agree, we support you if you're happy. Plus even though mal and jay were hiding that big news from us, I'll agree with her despite being mad at her for not telling us." Evie says jokingly. I giggle slightly and mal wipes a tear from my eye. "The boys are coming over in a bit to go over a plan to get the wand, if you don't want to I'll walk you to your room." Mal says. "I'm fine right here." I tell her and she nods. When they boys get here they greet me and ask how the date was, then they go over a plan twice and a back up plan three times. I feel my eyes getting heavier each word they speak.
