Chapter Eight
“Will you be my girlfriend Ash?” Kyren’s eyes sparkled in the sunlight. “I’m kind of crazy about you, in case you hadn’t noticed. I don’t think that it’s too much of a just to say that you’re slightly nuts about me too.” “Really? You like me? I thought all those kisses were because you had a severe disease that could only be cured by mouth to mouth contact.” I tried to stay straight faced, but failed when Kyren began tickling me. “Just answer the question, silly girl. You can’t leave me hanging like that!”
I smiled shyly and kissed him softly on the lips. “I’ll be your girlfriend, but only if you’ll be my boyfriend.” Kyren laughed. “That’s kind of the point Ash.” I rolled my eyes at him.
I ran my fingers through the sand on the beach. We’d come here, even though it was way too cold to be at the beach, because Kyren had told me that my Sunday morning needed to be brightened by his presence and he had some mysterious question that he had to ask me. I thought he sounded like he wanted to marry me, but no matter how much I pestered him on the way here, he wouldn’t give me any clues. He had just held my hand and sung along to the radio. And then he waited to ask me until the sand had found its way into every single thread of my sweater.
I stood up and tried unsuccessfully to brush some sand off of me. I pulled Kyren to his feet and we set off down the beach, wrapped around each other so tightly that you couldn’t tell where one ended and the other began.

Kyren and I walked up the steps up the steps of the school together. I stared at the brick walls, thinking how strange it was that only about two short months ago I wanted to skip school and run back to Morris. Now, I couldn’t imagine that I’d ever had a life before Kyren and all the things I’d learned about myself. Being immortal didn’t change anything about me the way that I thought it would. Although it did provide things that never would have been possible otherwise. I literally had forever with Kyren now. The thought was crazy, and yet now it was my reality.
It was incredible how much had changed in my life in those two months. A million thoughts were running through my mind, almost all of them about the boy holding my hand. I’d been so busy pondering my newfound knowledge that I didn’t notice that Kyren had lead us straight to Ryan. Trinity never stopped trying to capture Ryan’s attention, but that attention, sadly, was solely focused on me. Not for a lack of effort to be utterly undesirable on my behalf. “Hey Ryan, I’d like you to meet my girlfriend. Isn’t she gorgeous?” I shouldered Kyren.
Ryan looked like he wanted to throttle Kyren, but the last time he tried that it didn’t work out so well for him, so he held back. He turned to me. “Is that true?” “Yeah, it turns out that you can’t take a hint so we had to make it official.” Ryan ignored him, but I could tell that Kyren’s comment had struck a nerve.
I offered him a small smile. “Well congratulations Ash. I’m happy for you.” He nodded to me and turned to walk into the school. I glared at Kyren. “Would it kill you to be a little nicer to him? I mean I know he’s a jerk, but he’s miserable.” Kyren blinked. “Ash, you don’t even like the guy! Since when do you care about his emotional state?” “I know, but could you just make an effort to not totally insult him all the time?” Kyren grumbled. “If that’s really what you want.” I grinned. “You’re so whipped Kyren.” He laughed loudly and a few people stared at him as though they’d though he was a mute and now lo and behold! He has a voice!
I smirked at them. If only they knew Kyren the way I did. We parted ways in the hall and met up again in Science. Liv hadn’t shown up yet, and when she did, Trinity whispered to me. “I totally don’t trust her nice girl act. There’s going to be some serious drama going on soon, believe me.” “You’ve only told me that a thousand times in the past week.” “Well it’s true!”
