"Hey, you packed your guitar, right?" Everly asked as we climbed into the truck. "You promised me that you would play for me by the fire this weekend," she reminded.
"No I didn't, but I have an old one there. Besides, I don't quite remember promising such a thing," I replied with a smirk in her direction. She laughed.
"Well I do, and I'm looking forward to it," she said, turning up the volume on the radio as I pulled out of my parking space, leaving the apartment behind. We had spent the morning packing, and now it was almost 4:00pm and we were finally on the road. Thankfully it's only an hour drive.

"So what is your family like?" Everly asked out of the blue once we were on the highway. I thought for a moment.
"Well my Mom is an amazing cook and baker, so there will be way too much food. My Dad has a whiskey obsession and will take any opportunity to go fishing. And my brother is on summer break from college, typical college boy," I replied. Everly nodded.
"What college does your brother go to?" she asked.
"He's going to Harvard," I replied.
"He must be a pretty smart guy to get into Harvard," Everly said in shock. I laughed.
"He's too smart for his own good, but he doesn't even know what he wants to major in yet," I said with a shrug. Everly nodded and thought for a moment, both of us just listening to the music. I glanced over at her, then disconnected my phone from the Bluetooth.
"You should connect your phone," I offered.
"You sure? We don't exactly have the same taste in music," she replied. I chuckled.
"I'm sure, go ahead."
"Ok, but don't say I didn't warn you," she said with a wink as she connected her phone. I laughed, having a hard time keeping my eyes on the steering wheel and not on her tan bare thighs on my leather seats.

As soon as the music started playing, I knew exactly what and who it was, even though I don't usually listen to this genre. I immediately started laughing.
"What?" Everly asked, looking confused. I glanced over at her.
"You're seriously trying to tell me that your straight, yet the first song you play is a song from Hayley Kiyoko? AKA lesbian Jesus?"
"It's catchy," she replied, blushing. I nodded sarcastically and chuckled.
"You are a very confusing woman Everly Anne," I said.
"Fine, I'll change it," she laughed.

The rest of the ride went well, and before long we were standing in front of my childhood house. The screen door was open with country music and smells of homemade baking came wafting out past the front porch.
"This place is beautiful," Everly breathed. I smiled.
