This is a story of a girl who was granted the gift, this gift will change the lives of whoever crosses her path. This all started 8 years ago I was 9 at the Douglasville fair where mama would take us to see the fireworks, that was my favorite part of the night and socialize with the other mothers. Father's work takes him traveling all over the country so he couldn't go with us at the time. Jenna dragged me on all her favorite rights while the sent of the food stands strangled my stomach.
"I'll protect you no matter what, it's my older sister's duty." Jenna smiled as we got on to the Gut Buster 2000. I was still shaking when I was holding her hand she let go to wipe the sweat from my clammy hands on to her dress. The rush of anxiety was relieved once the man took my height. "That's alright I was starting to get hungry anyway let's go find mama. Whatcha in the mood for ice cream, hot dog, funnel cake?" She asked as I pointed to the ice cream stand where mama was standing by waving at us. the sky was engulfed in a beautiful hue of orange fading into the navy sky. We trudged up the hill that overlooks the whole fair and just sees a sliver of the shore.
" When is it starting?" I asked my mom but it was too loud to hear me with the crowd of people flocking over and her talking to her "important client" on the phone. Jenna laid the blue blanket on the pointy grass. I got this drawn feeling to walk towards the woods I got up the rumble of the fireworks shook my tiny body, each step I took, I felt a heavyweight sinking me down.
"Jenna go follow your sister. " Mama cooked her voice was almost mute among the glorious explosion of the sky. The colors traced my body on the ground, Jenna's cold hands grabbed my arms trying to hold me back.
"Don't go in there it's dark." she cried but I just ignored her and kept moving onward through the lush bushes. A low mumble started to increase when I got closer to the smell of diesel fought through the air of the oily festival food, that's when I saw it the glow of a crashed ship the radiant green colored the forest.
" Alexia please," Jenna whispered, I hadn't noticed that she was still following me for this long I lost her at the entrance. She fell to her knees crying this was the first time I've ever seen her cry in front of me.
"I have to help them," I claimed
" Help who!?" she sobbed. a hiss came from a door that lifted from the side and the body of a woman rolled out. I stumbled over and Jenna followed, the image of her face still haunts me. Blood caked her face and a green symbol rested on her forehead. She was carried out by a tall man, he looked young but her didn't look like he was in that much damage as she was in.
" Good Alexandria Richards you got my message." He seemed in relief when he saw us. He then laid the lady on the grass and she reached out to Jenna, She wanted to run but also was concerned about her she took her hand and light came from there grip it was blinding. The next I knew it Jenna was on the ground lifeless and the lady was gone. I ran over to her she was still breathing but she was really pale.
" Alexandria I need you." He exclaimed
" No, No, No!" I cried I wanted to run but I felt paralyzed
"Your DNA matches perfectly to the exchanged in power."
"What do you mean,"I asked he threw up some liquid, it slashed on to my feet I tried to keep a straight face but it was so warm and disgusting
"I only have a few minutes to live please promise me that you'll protect the universe." he placed his hand on my shoulder
"You have my word but I'm only 8 years old, why put that much responsibility on me?"
"Because I believe in you." The man places his cold forehead against mine. Just like Jenna, I felt like I was out for hours, I turned over my limbs felt like gelatin and my head was pounding and Jenna laid a few feet away from me. Some flashlights cut through the thick fog all I could do was to watch the dust particles dancing in the darkness of the night.
"Jenna! Alexia!" Mama sobbed form the distance. All I could do was crawl towards Jenna, I then started tapping it to wake her up, I couldn't talk because my throat felt swollen and I didn't have any energy to speak. A few of the search dogs found us.
"THERE OVER HERE!" a man shouted on top of the steep ledge mama ran down to us and picked up Jenna's head to see if she was awake, I tried to sit up but gravity just pulled me down all that was going through my head was that this was all my fault, an echo that lived will me every time I walked by her hospital bed. Those nights were hard on everyone's dad had to come back from his trip and that was the last time he left us alone and I felt that I was pushed aside by mama which made me feel more like crap because we've just drifted apart from each other. She was in a coma for a month when she woke up, she couldn't remember anything that happened that night of the accident, since then I've been having these overwhelming pain in my head the doctors called them seizures but I think it was more because I would wake from it my brain would throb with new information with that I graduated school at the age of 14 and saw a therapist once a week with I don't know why I have to see her we don't even talk the accident left me mute for the last 9 years. Even my blonde waves and ocean blue eyes turn to an Irish Red and matching emerald eyes. I'm the only one that stands out from the family, I felt like an outcast whenever we did family events. I slowly just drifted apart from people. The only friend I had was the one who was looking back at me in the mirror. Damn Insecurity
