As I slowly sat up in the bed, I saw a faint shimmery image standing at the edge of my bed. On closer inspection, I made out a woman, who seemed slightly older and had a solemn expression on her face.

The more I sat up, the less I could make out who she was. As she became almost transparent I heard her say softly,

“You are making a grave mistake.”

“What mistake?”

Before I could get an answer she was gone.

Am I actually going crazy? Probably because half the people I know are involved in some sort of weird magic other real stuff. Yea, I guess that would make sense; ive officially gone crazy. That’s it, I can’t go.

While I was smirking to myself in triumph, Kamala walked through the door wearing workout apparel and an annoyed look on her face.

After she had stomped into the room and placed her hands on her hips, she said,

“Grace, will you please talk some sense into Anik and tell him it is perfectly acceptable for me to bring a few pieces of makeup? I mean, what if we encounter some hot princes or dukes or something I need to be prepared right?”

I held back a laugh.

“Kamala, you are beautiful without your makeup, and if someone is crazy enough not to see that, they definitely don’t deserve you.”

She rolled her eyes, showing that my response was clearly not the answer she was looking for.

“That is what Anik said.”

“Well, then I’m sure you will be fine without makeup.”

Sighing in defeat, she turned on her heel and walked towards the open door. She called over her shoulder as she left,

“We are leaving right after lunch, so you better start getting ready.”

The clock on my nightstand read 10:32, making me groan internally.

After taking a very quick shower, I put on athletic clothes similar to Kamala’s and brushed my hair before attempting to braid it.

After disliking the third attempt at a simple fishtail braid, I pulled the hair out of the knotty mess and sighed.

“Need some help?”

I looked up and saw Kelsey standing behind me. Smiling slightly, I nodded.

Once her hands touched my head, it was like magic. I relaxed immediately and let her work on my unmanageable hair.

“You know Grace, in the other…places, you won’t be able to just give up if you can’t figure something out. It will take dedication, and sheer stubbornness, which Ren says I have enough of to go around for everyone…twice.”
