CHAPTER FIVE
window

namjoon had been in his room since the panic attack. it was only around eight pm, but once he and chan finished their hot chocolate, chan advised that namjoon relax in his room for a bit before going to bed. namjoon didn't fight it; it had been a long day of meeting new people and unpacking (less than half of) his things, and in all honesty, he didn't feel like facing anyone after what had happened.

not yet.

but it was almost one in the morning, and namjoon couldn't sleep. he'd read a few books, watched a few episodes of one of his favorite anime, and even did a bit of stretching in hopes of tiring himself out.

but nothing worked.

with a heavy sigh, namjoon wandered over to his window and peeled back the blackout curtains. though the small lamp on his nightstand illuminated the room fairly well, everything seemed to glow even brighter beneath the light of the nearly full moon. he sat down in front of the large, floor length windows, and clutched his legs tight to his chest, resting his chin on top of his knees.

as the bellflower estate was the only building for miles, and nowhere near any cities full of light, he could see more stars than he ever had in his entire life. namjoon pointed out constellations, his mood increasing a little bit every time he could remember what they were called. he counted stars, but gave up when he reached the milky way and had to start over again a few too many times. he even tried to look for jupiter (or was it saturn), but gave up after a few seconds.

so namjoon just sat there, staring out at the vast expanse of sky, thoughts running through his mind. and eventually, he fell asleep, right there in front of the window.

nearly every weekday morning, kim seokjin was the last to leave the estate and make his way towards headquarters. he liked to stay behind and keep hana company while they ate, then help her do that morning's round of dishes before he headed out. and even though namjoon's three bodyguards (that most of them didn't really understand the need for since there were already six men willing and able to protect him) were there to help, he happily kept to his routine.

that morning, however, when jin put the final dish away in the cupboard and dried his hands off on the white towel, he didn't bid hana goodbye and immediately leave. instead, he turned to chan (who seemed to be the closest to namjoon, due to what had happened the night before), and asked, "does namjoon usually sleep this late? its almost ten."

chan sighed, shrugging. "no, he's usually back from his morning run and in the gym or the shooting range by now. but i doubt he got much sleep last night."

jin hummed, nodding slowly. "you're probably right."

hana grabbed a black lunch bag from the fridge and handed it to jin, frowning as she plucked a short piece of black hair from his dress shirt. she then turned, adressing all four of the males in the room. "one of you should go wake him up — or at least make sure he's alive." she then sighed and walked out into the hallway, tutting and muttering, "poor thing..."

wonho pushed off the counter and started towards the doorway, but jin stopped him. "no, i'll do it. i need to talk to him about training, anyway."

wonho was reluctant, but stepped back and let jin step out into the hall. "just be gentle — any sudden movements, and he may stab you," he called out, but jin couldn't tell if he was joking or not.

he brushed it off and made his way up the stairs, briefly recalling hana telling him where namjoon's room would be a few days before. when he reached the room, he knocked lightly.

no response.

he knocked a few more times, a bit louder this time, and when no one replied, he called out, "i'm coming in!" he turned the golden doorknob and slowly pushed in the door, peering around it. he stepped inside, and his eyes immediately fell on a body curled up in a small ball beneath the window; namjoon.

jin almost let out a laugh, and at the same time, he felt sad for the boy; he'd been moved to a new home with very little warning and was worried about his friend to the point of a panic attack, and —evidently— couldn't fall asleep until he had laid down in front of the window.

as jin crept into the room, careful not to wake namjoon, he wondered if this —finding namjoon passed out on the floor instead of in his bed— would be a daily occurrence. he reached over top of the sleeping boy and gently pulled the curtains shut, hoping that if he kept the sun from shining down on namjoon that he wouldn't get too hot. he then looked around and found a light blanket in an open box.

and when he draped the blanket across namjoon's body, the boy stirred, and his eyes cracked open.

"wha— who?"

jin chuckled lowly, and crouched down beside namjoon, instinctively brushing the hair away from namjoon's forehead. "it's jin hyung. just go back to sleep, namjoon-ah. we have some things to talk about later."

"mhm," namjoon hummed, and pulled the blanket up to his chin. he rolled over and faced away from jin, and was out.

jin smiled, and quietly left the room.
