When I arrived at the palace the next morning all I could think about was what Jin needed my assistance with. I knew he told me to meet him after the days work but I couldn't wait. I never had any actual work to do unless the queen sent for me so I had plenty of wondering time on my hands. Times that I would usually spend trying to tinker on my reading.
I could barely see where I was going as I stumbled through the halls. Nearly knocking into another maid who didn't bother to hide her annoyance from me.
I didn't sleep a wink last night. My sisters had been out all night and I had to be the one to keep mothers mind occupied. Her little girls out in the town so late at night with the predators sneaking around every corner.
When she finally fell asleep it was well past first light and my sisters still hadn't come home. I didn't want to leave her there alone but I was the only one who worked. So I made the tough decision and made sure to leave different food options close along with some ink and paper to use if she wished.
My mother loved to write. Her handwriting was the most beautiful I'd ever seen. Curvy and bouncing with a specific boldness in every individual letter like she'd made up the style all on her own. She'd taught me how to write my name when I was much younger. Just in case anyone ever needed to know it since I couldn't spell it aloud.
Lazily pushing the kitchen door open I made my way to the table and plopped down with a sigh.
Jimin turned around from the shelf he was stocking with jams and other Jarred foods to frown a me. "What's wrong with you? You look terrible."
I smiled at him "I feel terrible. I was up all night with mom"
"Is she alright?!"
"Yes she's fine." I assured him. The worry is his eyes made me blush " she just refused to sleep because my sisters went out and hadn't returned even by time I left for work."
Jimin looked more upset than I was "your sisters are so grotty! I don't know why you put up with their torpid behavior!"
Grotty? Torpid? I've never heard those words before. I don't know what they mean but by the way Jimin said they I'd bet they were insults.
Without saying anything I stood from the table. A bit surprised when Jimin came up with a sandwich in his hand. He held it out to me and placed it in my palm when I was too slow in taking it.
"Here." He said waving my thank you off. " you'll need the energy."
We said our goodbyes for the day and both set off. Him back to organizing and me to go look for Jin early since I really had nothing better to do.
