Chapter 1

Hey guys, this is 5, I'm writing this chapter from Diamond (Dia) Green's point of view, sorry it's a bit short, but I had to end there. Hope you all enjoy! 19 is working hard on her chapter right now.

"Em." I whisper, "Em where are you?" My voice breaks into urgency. Where is she? "Em!" I whisper again, raising my voice. But not loud enough that they hear. Then, I can see her. It would be a comical image if not for the circumstance. Em's short stature, attempting to drag a gray cat up the stairs. "Em!" I whisper. She looks up, startled, in her moment of confusion, the cat wiggles out of her grasp and runs down the stairs. "Em," I say again, "leave it." She nods in defeat and walks quietly up the stairs. The last step, that we both know creaks, she jumps over.

When she makes it to our hiding stop behind the bookshelf, I scold her. "What were you thinking, trying to get that switching cat up here?" she looks down, dejected.

"I'm sorry." She says quietly.

"It's okay," I say. "Just be more careful. If you got hurt I wouldn't be able to live with myself."

From outside the bookshelf, I hear Zania's crisp voice, "I don't know what the use of searching my house will do. I wouldn't let any thieves or plunderers in my house."

"It's not a thief or a plunderer we are looking for ma'am. The Queen's guard wouldn't bother with something as trivial as that." I hear the guard mutter under his breath, "Stupid city folk."

Zania breaks the silence, "Then what is it you are looking for? If not a thief or plunderer that is." Bless her soul.

"Someone overheard a conversation between the Queen and the Memory Keeper, although it is none of your concern." The guard says, in a bored tone, as if he had said the exact line multiple times.

This makes Zania go quiet. I told her that I had done something illegal and I needed a place to stay. I told her to lie if any of the Queen's guard came to the house. I didn't tell her any more information. Well, now she knows what I did. I heard the Queen and the Memory Keeper talking about the system. Not just about the system, how to destroy the system, and what the system does.
