Hi! My name is Lynn and I'll be the neurotypical guide for this story! Before we delve into it, I first want to add some background.
Q: What is Aspergers?
A: Aspergers is a diagnosis that is typically considered a high-functioning form of ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) For each individual, Aspergers is different. Some people are diagnosed when they are little and "grow out of it." Others may struggle immensely trying to appear "normal" and fit in. However, there are many resources for all sorts of degrees of Aspergers.Q: How common is Aspergers?
A: Approximately Aspergers is diagnosed to 1 in 50 children.Q: What is neurotypical?
A: Neurotypical is a general term for people who are not diagnosed with any form of ASD.Q: Why are you writing this?
A: Throughout my relationship I found myself feeling very alone and confused on how to handle certain aspects of my SO's (Significant Other's) aspergers, at no fault of his own. Thankfully, we both have excellent therapists who we can talk to openly about how best to deal with the issues we bump into. However, most people do not have that luxury. Therefore, I am writing this book. To document and explain my own journey learning how to handle my thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Really, it's like any other relationship, with negatives and positives and ups and downs. Overall, what really matters is that you and your partner get through it together. On top of this, there are notorious forums online that treat the issue as if aspie's are completely robotic and unloving individuals, which deeply saddens me, knowing that people truly believe that their own SO's don't care for them. I am here to break stigmas and ignite openness for conversation and acceptance of aspie's.
Anyways, I hope you all enjoy this book. I am currently typing on my cell phone, so please excuse any poor formatting, and let me know in the comments! If any of you have a request for a topic, please let me know! I am very excited to be writing this for all of you, and I hope you find this helpful!
