Summer's POV
The first thought that screamed in my head was RUN.
Too late. Too late to do anything, too slow to react, too shocked to register what's happening.
Adam took a step forward. A slow, deliberate, menacing step forward. His body radiated danger.
"You!" His nostrils flared, and his face started gaining a reddish hue. I was breathless.
"Th-this.. this is.. is not what..."
"THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE, HUH!?"
I flinched, bracing myself. Dear goodness, my heart is hammering in my head. "This is not what you think it is!!" I blurted out, desperation getting the better of me. I slapped my hand over my mouth immediately.
This is a rule of survival. You do not try to reason with Adam Rivers. Never. Ever.
Adam thrust the drugs into his bag, his jaw clenched very tightly. Then he turned towards me after hoisting the bag on his shoulders, rolling up the sleeves of his mint green jacket. There's a red stain on his left sleeve. I'd like to think that's ketchup.
I sure hope it is.
"Cookie!" I choked out in despair as she ran to attack him.
"Bloody hell!" Adam's dark eyes smoldered with fury.
The unpredictable kitten had already taken a few good swipes at his ankle, before scurrying back towards me. The fresh scratches seemed to tick Adam off. Something tells me he doesn't hold back from hitting girls.
I mean, I'm not the type of girl you'd want romantically, so I'm not safe from him. Not at all.
"That's it!" he roared, reddening even more. He started taking angry strides towards me, a helpless teenage girl braced against the floor.
RUN!!
I finally listened to that voice in my head. I grabbed Cookie on instinct as I scampered onto my feet. Then I sprinted out of the doorway, feet pounding against the concrete as I tried to escape like there was no tomorrow.
There might be no tomorrow for real.
"You can't get away from me!!" Adam bellowed. He was advancing too quickly. This feeling right here, being chased by Adam Rivers, is the closest thing you can get to pure terror.
"PLEASE!" I screamed, as he caught up to me in an alley. I had run out of the school boundaries and ended up here in this shady street. I wasn't thinking about where I was going, I was too focused on what I was trying to leave behind.
Ahead of me was a dead end. Behind me was Adam Rivers, the reincarnation of the devil to the power of three.
I bet he has a gun. I bet he's not afraid to use it.
I bet I'm going to die.
No!! I can't die!
"AH!" Adam gripped my throat and slammed me against the wall, causing me to instantly lose my grip on Cookie. I couldn't breathe. My air supply was completely cut off.
"You disgusting coward," he spat, seething. He dug into his pocket with his other hand, his eyes blazing into mine. He looked like he was crazed with anger. I struggled against his grip, trying to use both my hands to pry his hand off but to no avail. Desperately trying to wriggle out of his grasp only wielded the same result.
I stopped trying as soon as he put the gun against the side of my head. A cold, metal pistol. I went limp with erratic fear. I think I'm going to collapse soon from either the lack of oxygen, extreme fear, or a bullet through my head. Whichever comes first.
