"Bye, mom. I'll see you when I get home." Yelled as I walked into my father's home office. "Goodbye Dad," I said as I headed for the door.
"Hey, honey. Don't forget to take your keys today. When you get home, your mother and I will be gone."
"Oh, yeah. Aren't you guys leaving today for that business trip?"
"Yes. Since we will be gone, extra rules apply. They are hanging on the fridge so you don't forget."
"I won't, dad."
"Just look at them before you leave."
"OK. I'll go look at them now." I walked into the kitchen and took a peek at the list, to get the basic picture. The list was being held up on the fridge by one of our many circle magnets.
1) No parties or boys (especially the boy part)
2) Don't leave by yourself
3) Don't burn the house down
4) Take care of Dreke and Joosh
As I got the feel of the list, my two dogs, Dreke and Joosh, snuggled up next to my legs. They both started to rough house around my feet, causing me to lean over slightly. I finished reading the list, to find the dogs running in circles in the living room. I started for the door, yelling my final goodbyes to everyone as I walked out of the house, starting in the direction of my school.
Once I had finally gotten to school, I walked straight in and went to my locker, where my friend, Alyssa had been waiting for me. When I saw her, I noticed the curious look on her face.
"Where were you? You missed the bus." She asked, loud enough that the rest of the people near the lockers surrounding us could hear her clearly.
"I know I missed the bus. I had to talk with my dad and look over my rule list." I replied, with a quiet tone to try and quiet her down. She looked up at me with a confused look in her eyes. "Don't you remember me telling you that my mom and dad were heading out of town for a week?"
"Oh, yeah. Is it this week?"
"Yeah. He said they would be gone when I got home from school."
"Yay! That means we get some true quality girl time. So, after school, at your house?"
"Sure."
"OK then. Let's get through today, then we will go over to your house."
"Wait. You know, me and Jae were going to get together with a couple of other people who are artists, to get together one day, so we can all draw and get everyone's input and advice."
"That would be fun. Why don't we ask her in gym."
"Yeah. Well, we should go before we are really late to class."
Alyssa and I went to gym class, like normal. When we got there, we immediately found Jae and approached her.
"Hey, you guys. Whatcha doing?" She asked with a smile.
"Nothing at the moment, but we were wondering if you wanted to know if you would like to come over to my house, to do that painting thing we were talking about? And, even afterward, we could all go swimming." I asked her, flickering my eyes between Alyssa and her.
"Sure. I can do it today. It's just that I kinda don't have the art supplies with me today."
"It's fine. I figured that you wouldn't, so I figured you could use my extra stuff. Some of it might be a little weird, but other than that, it's like your normal supplies."
