The figure was getting closer. The closer the shadow came, the more Desmond pulled me behind him. Drake and Joosh started getting close to the ground in a protective position in front of Desmond.
"Amber?" I recognized the voice. I was my father's.
"Dad?" I asked as he walked into the light shinning in from the hallway light we had turned on when we entered.
"There you are. I was worried when you weren't here that something had happened."
"It's nothing. I was at the beach and I took a walk. I was expecting to get back a little earlier, but I got caught up in som-"
"Desmond?" My father stared at him, not paying any attention to me.
"Hey Mr. Campos." Desmond peeks around the corner, looking at my mom. "Mrs. Campos."
"Desmond?" My mother asks from the living room. "Is that really you?"
"The one and only." He says with a giant smirk across his face.
"Oh. We thought we would never see you again." She runs over, wrapping him in a warm embrace.
"You guys thought I would never come to get my Amber back?" He says, wrapping his arm around my shoulder, which I then shoo off with my hand. "I was hoping you two would have more faith in me than that."
"Well, of course we do, but still. Oh, I was just worried that we would never see you again. Heck, I thought we wouldn't ever see anyone from our world, except Amber, of course." Mom says, starting to tear up as dad pulls her into a tight embrace.
"What the actual heck is happening here? First I find this guy on the beach that apparently knows me, but I don't know him. Then he tells me I'm from another world, where I used to live before I was sent here to protect myself." I say, gripping my head with my hands, trying to wrap my head around this whole idea. Then I feel a warmth of my hands. I looked up to see Desmond with his hands on my hands, pulling them away from my head. I look at him straight in his eyes, staring directly into his soul.
That's when I saw it. They way he looked at me. He did know me. He did love me. I didn't remember anything about this apparent world he was from, but I knew that look. I closed my eyes, with my head throbbing.
Trust him.
I opened my eyes wide, looking around to see if anyone knows. Thankfully, no one does. The last thing I need is for someone to tell me that all of this is actually fake and I don't want to spend my future is a psych ward.
But that voice I heard. It was familiar. It was mine, but it sounded more distanced. As if it was so far away it was practically a whisper. I close my eyes again as Desmond and my parents walk into the living room, leaving me alone.
You know you want to. Just do it. Let yourself. Stop fighting it.
I opened my eyes again, just to see the world on it's side, going black. My legs go numb. But before it all went black, I saw something. Desmond. He was at my side so fast it was unreal. That's when the darkness took over and I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer. As I seeped into the blackness that was slowly taking control of my body, an image flashed before my eyes. I couldn't make out most of it, but I do know one thing I saw.
A tree.I opened my eyes and looked around the room. I was laying on my bed in my bedroom. But then I felt a weird tingle on my right leg. I looked down to see Desmond asleep, resting his head on my leg, sleeping. I sat up, trying hard not to move my leg. I felt this awful pain in my head, like a really bad migraine times four. I lift his head gently, trying hard not to wake him, and slipped a pillow where my leg was. From there, I stood up and stretched a little bit.
