After we finished breakfast, I went back upstairs to think about everything that Desmond had told me. I had just pulled out my sketchbook and flipped to the next page when my phone chimed, telling me someone had texted.
After I sent the text, I lied down on my bed and thought 'Should I even call him dad?'
You could, but I never did before. Well, not him specifically. Although I did call Dr. Driscoll dad after he started taking care of me outside the lab, so I guess you could if you see him as a father-like figure and it's okay with him.
A sudden pain hit my head, hard. I knew that the voice was trying to reach out to me, but this time the pain was less intense. I pushed through it, hoping to get answers to some of my questions before I passed out again. 'Who are you?'
I'm you silly. Don't you recognize your own voice?
'What do you want?'
Honestly, I just want to help you. It's like Desmond said. I'm part of your subconscious that wants to help you. I want you to remember what I know of Rotrade and the people there.
'How do you plan on helping me?'
That concoction Desmond has. You should take it. But not now.
'Why not now?'
Because your friends are waiting for you to go to the beach with them.
All of a sudden I could feel the voice leave, and so did the pain. Trying to get her -or rather me?? This is confusing- out of my head I decided it would be a good idea to change my clothes, considering I had been wearing these for practically three days now. I took off my current clothes and threw on a white crop top hoodie that had two black stripes on both the arms, along with a pair of high-waisted, short, light blue jean shorts. Underneath I had put on my black and white stripped bikini in case I felt like going for a short swim.
I started to walk down the stairs towards the living room, where my "parents" and Desmond were.
"Hey." I said announcing my presence. I didn't want to uses the words 'mom' or 'dad', so I just continued. "Can I take my bike to the beach with Jae and Alyssa?"
"I guess." My "father" said, "But only if Desmond comes with you."
"Why?" I asked.
"To protect you. Is that a problem?" It wasn't a problem, but I just didn't want him there because, if I know Jae and Alyssa, and I do, they're just going to ask him questions the entire time. Also, I don't exactly want him saying something that will make either of them thinking one of us is psychotic.
"I mean I don't have a problem, but what about Jae and Alyssa? Won't they think it's a bit weird when a guy just shows up with me. Especially considering never once have I mentioned him and they haven't met him." To hopefully help me drive my point forward, I continued. "They've known me for years and I've told them everything about me and they would just find this weird."
