Lexie
I got ready for my date and came downstairs to find my parents sitting on the couch.
"What are you doing?" I asked my parents.
"We're sitting here," Dad replied as Mom smiled.
I gave them a weird look. There was a knock at the door, and I went to answer it, but Dad beat me to it.
"What? Wait. You were," I said, wondering how Dad got to the door before me.
"I didn't get where I am, sitting on my laurels. You must be more diligent," Dad advised as I arched an eyebrow. He opened the door as Thomas stood there with his fist in the air, getting ready to knock again.
Dad looked at Thomas as he lowered his hand. I watched as Dad crossed his arms across his chest, providing an intimidating stance.
"Are you ready?" Thomas asked me.
Before I answered, Dad said, "Please come inside so we may talk." Thomas stepped inside as Dad closed the door. "Let's get down to business, must we? You are taking our daughter out on a date. You will not maltreat, touch, deflower, or any other unholy acts that you're thinking. You will return Lexie as you have received her. There's also the business matter of a phone you destroyed."
I stood there and rolled my eyes as Thomas pulled a cellphone out of his pocket and handed it to me.
"I didn't remember your number, so I had them provide you a new number. I apologize again for my clumsy behavior," Thomas replied as Dad stood there.
"Accidents happen," I assured him as I opened it open and programmed some numbers into the phone. I would enter the other names later when we returned.
"There is no such thing as accidents." We looked at Dad as he leaned towards Thomas. "I can find out about you in five minutes and destroy you in less time, remember that," Dad told Thomas. Thomas's brows lifted in surprise.
"Are we finished with the Spanish Inquisition?" I asked Dad.
"I don't know, are we?" Dad asked, looking at Thomas.
"Yes, sir," Thomas answered. I shook my head as I opened the door and pushed Thomas outside, then closing the door behind me. We walked to the car.
"You must excuse my dad. He forgets this isn't a business deal," I replied as Thomas chuckled as he opened my door for me.
"No worries. Your dad's an overprotective father. I would be the same way if I had a daughter," Thomas said as I gave him a quizzical look. "I'm not ready for parenthood yet. I want to get through my senior year." I snickered as I got into the car.
Thomas got into the driver's side, and we left. He drove us to La Cantina, which was a Mexican restaurant/salsa dancing. I had never been to a restaurant like this. I'm curious to see what it's like to go to one. He pulled into a parking spot and got out of the car, walking to my side and opening my door. I got out, and he closed the door behind me.
As we walked, I felt something touch me and looked down as Thomas slid his hand into mine. That made me smile as we walked into the restaurant hand in hand. We inside the restaurant and they seated us. The hostess handed us menus.
I flipped through my menus, trying to figure out what I wanted to order. I recognized a few things and stuck to what I am familiar with, ordering steak fajitas. Thomas ordered tamales. We handed our menus to the server and sat there.
"I'm sorry about my dad. Sometimes I wonder about him," I sighed as Thomas chuckled.
"It's nice that your parents care. Most people don't have that," Thomas reminded me.
