"Well looks like we're partners." She beamed. "Now help me kill these things!"
"And just how am I supposed to do that?!" I shouted back. "Follow up question, how did you cause that explosion?"
"Just use these!" She responded and threw several pins at me. I caught almost all of them, but a few did fall to the ground.
"How am I supposed to fight with pins?!" I demanded.
"Just concentrate on one of the pins and let it take hold."
I had quickly picked the one with a picture of lightning on the front, and in a flash the girl was gone.
But I really couldn't have worried too much about that right now. I looked at the nearest frog, and concentrated on the pin. And just like she said, it took control of me.
My hand flew outwards, and lighting shot from my hand. It contacted with the frog hard, sending it a good ten yards backwards. It would have kept going, but it disappeared while in the air.
I then focused all of my attention on the other two, but as soon as I tried aiming at them, they vanished just like first one.
"So,"said a voice behind me. "you just had to leave all of the dirty work for me."
It was the girl from before.
"Where did go?!" I asked. "And how did I just do that?!""I really don't know that much about what's going on right now, all I know is that there was a voice in my head that told me to find a partner, and how to use the pins." She told me.
"So how come I didn't know about any of that?"
"No clue." She responded. "But I think that we should focus on the mission. You did get it right?"
"You mean that weird text." I told her. "Yeah I read, but I don't know what it's supposed to mean though."
"It's simple. You know those frogs we just fought. There's probably a stronger version at 104." She answered.
"Right." I was mostly quiet on the short walk to the 104 building except when we asked each each other what our names are. Her name was Terra Grey.
"By the way, did you find your skull pin?" Terra asked.I was about to question her, once again, but then I felt around in my pocket, and there it was. A pin the same size as the others, but with a black background and a white skull design on it.
"Squeeze it and concentre." She said.
I gripped it as hard as I could, and voices started to flood my mind. It felt like they were pounding on my skull, each one trying to make it's self heard more than the rest. My head was in splitting pain the entire time.I focused on one at a time, and when I did, I realized that they were other people's thoughts. They left as soon as they entered my head, but I heard each one clearly.
"You ready?" She called back, seeing my pain.
"Yeah, I'm ready." I said.
We walked up to the building and heard a venomous voice behind us.
"So the fresh prey has arrived." It spit out.We turned around to see a man who appeared to be in his late twenties with jet black hair, and a white suit, sitting on an overhang across the street.
"I guess you want to know what's going on here don't you?" He said. "Well it's simple really, you're both dead. You died and are competing for a second chance at life in a test called the Reapers' Game. I am the current Game Master Shi Dorgaon."
And with that he called forth a large lion like monster. It was about five foot tall while on all fours and a icy blue color.
"Try this Noise on for size!" He shouted out. Just as he finished, black wings sprouted from his back, and he took off.
"Okay, so that couldn't have been any weirder." I said awkwardly, pulling my attention back to the "Noise" as Shi called it.
"Alright, let's destroy this monster!" Terra said.
I decided to try out another one of the pins. It was the one with a flame on it. I focused, and summoned a flame near the noise. Then I moved it. In no time, I had created a fire wall around it, completely imprisoning it.
"Good thinking!" Terra shouted, as she used a pin to manipulate the flame even more, making it spin around making a fire tornado. But, it seems, I couldn't hold my power for too long. My flame had suddenly gone out, leaving the Noise exposed to Terra's next attack. She touched the ground, and sent a shock wave through the ground, which probably would have finished it off had it not leaped into the air, landing right in front of me. It unleashed a frozen breath, nearly freezing me solid. While I was unable to move, a huge piece of concrete flew at the Noise, crushing it.
The timer on my hand disappeared completely. I guessed that meant that we had finished the mission. But before I could say a word, I fell into an abyss of darkness.
