*Disclaimer*: I'm very indecisive when it comes to the point of view of the story so there may be a lot of switching between 1st person and 3rd person perspective and then a lot of POVs from the characters. I'm sorry if that's annoying but it helps with certain parts I want to write. Thank you and enjoy.

Saturday May 25th 2019, 7:26pm.

I woke up to the buzzer on my apartment intercom repeatedly going off. I turned over to grab my phone to see the time.

7:26pm

"Shit." I said to myself as I scrambled out of bed. I ran over to the intercom and pressed the button. "Jules is this you?" I said into the speaker "yes who else would it be. I've been out here for 30 minutes. Let me up." She said as I buzzed her into my apartment building.

Jules O'donald is my best friend and has been since I was in grade one and she was in grade two. We both had the same future plans, her's would just start before mine; we would both move to L.A after we graduate and attend UCLA, her for preforming arts and me for art to become a tattoo artist. She moved to L.A last year and I was stuck in Toronto without here. L.A has treated her so well, she's been in commercials, big plays, and has been casted as an extra in many popular TV shows. Jules also hangs out with a lot of social media influencers, she tells me about meeting them at parties but the names she says just fly right over my head. I have never found any interest in watching Youtubers or following social media influencers, unless they have something to do with art, which is what my life is mainly focused on. Jules on the other hand was head first into the life of every social media persona, personally it annoyed me to no end but I let her talk about them because it's what made her happy.

"MADDYKINS" Jules screamed as she busted into my apartment. I haven't seen Jules in a year since she moved here. We'd call, text and FaceTime almost every day but that is not the same being in the same room as someone. "JULES" I screamed back as we brought each other in for a much needed hug.

"How long were you sleeping for? I was buzzing your intercom for over 30 minutes" Jules said as she let go of me. "Well my flight got in this morning at around 9am and I didn't sleep on the plane and then I had to wait for moving truck to get here at 12, so by the time the movers and I had put everything into my apartment I passed out because I haven't slept in so long. Moving from one country to another  is exhausting Jules" I said sitting down on my bed. "I know, I did it last year remember" she said pushing my shoulder as she sat down next to me. I just laughed at her response. "Now let's get you ready" she said opening all the boxes marked 'clothes'. "Ready for what?" I said to her with a confused look on my face. "The party? Remember? I told you I was taking you to a party when you got here." I had no memory of her telling me that, but I have been sleep deprived so it make sense that I have no memory of it. "Shit! Right, sorry Jules I completely forgot. Who's party is it?" I asked sitting next to her as she dug through boxes. "His name is Sam. He has a pizza party at his apartment every Friday, it's not a huge party but it's a lot of fun. My friend Tara invited me. Sam is a youtuber so you wouldn't know him." She was right, I had no idea who he was. "Okay sounds fun."

A few hours later after Jules had dolled me up we were in our Uber on the way to Sam's apartment. Jules picked out my outfit which I was in love with. She picked out a pair of red plaid pants and a mesh black tube top with black creepers for shoes and chains on the pants for accessories. This is how I normally dress anyway and she knows that so she made sure not to pick anything out of my comfort zone. As the Uber drove along the streets of L.A I just stared up at the tall buildings and bright lights shining back at me through the car windows. "L.A is something huh" Jules said as she gripped my hand tight. I just smiled back at her. Truth be told I was nervous about living here, there are so many big names in this city and a lot of people I don't want to get involved with. People always say 'L.A changes you' but I believe that if you have you heart set on one thing nothing can ever change that or you.

We finally arrived at our destination. It was a tall apartment building in a more populated area of L.A, it was nice, much nicer than the area where my apartment is. "Are you ready?" Jules said to me as we walked into the building. I was nervous to say the least, it's my first night in L.A and I'm attending a party hosted by a social media star. Strange. "Ready as I'll ever be Jules."  We got into the elevator and Jules checked her phone at a message from Tara to see what the floor and apartment number was. Floor 4, apartment 21. We arrived up to the fourth floor of the building and stepped out of the elevator, Jules was holding my hand the entire time up until we got to Sams apartment door. Jules knocked and a boy quickly opened the door, he was average height and had shaggy-ish blonde hair. "Sam, nice to see you" ah this was Sam. "You too Jules. Glad you could make it." Sam said as his eyes met mine. "And who's this?" Sam asked reaching his hand out to shake mine. "I'm Maddy. Your Sam I'm guessing" I jokingly said. "Sam I am" he laughed, bad joke I thought to myself but laughed along as if I thought it was funny. Sam motioned us inside as he shut the door behind us. "Welcome to Pizza night ladies. We've got music, drinks and Pizza in the kitchen and a lot of socializing. Umm...yeah just have fun." Sam explained as he walked over and sat on the couch next to a pretty girl with bright blue hair. "Pretty cool huh?" Jules said smiling at me while grabbing a red solo cup and filling it with vodka and red mouthing dew. "I guess so Jules." Jules then proceeded to make the same drink again and handed it to me. "Cheers" she said raising her cup to meet mine and then taking a big gulp of her drink.

After about an hour of Jules socializing and introducing me to people, I sat down on the corner of the couch and watched as people laughed, talked, danced and sang along to the music playing. My people watching was interrupted by the door opening. A boy with dyed blue hair walked in. Clearly we have the same mindset because my hair was fully blue. He was gorgeous, he had a bit of a baby face with a bad boy charm. He wore all black but had a big smile to go with his attire. Sam walked over to him and gave him a quick hug and then the boy wandered over to the kitchen and began to socialize. I got up from my place on the couch and walked over to Jules who was talking with  Tara. "Jules, who's that" I said pointing to the boy. "Oh that's Colby, Sam's best friend" she said as Tara grabbed my arm, "you should talk to him Maddy, he's super sweet..I think you'd really hit it off" Tara said smiling at me. I wasn't one to go talk to people at parties that I didn't know but to be fair I didn't know anyone here unless Jules introduced me to them. So, I decided to walk to the kitchen to get another drink and maybe he'd notice me and talk to me first, if he's sam's best friend and this is an every weekend event and he's never seen me here before he has to talk to me out of pure curiosity.

I walked into the kitchen and grabbed the vodka and Mountain Dew and began to make my drink. Colby was sat up on the counter talking to some guy who I did not know who then left and I watched him walk into the bathroom and it was Colby and I left in the kitchen area. "I like your hair" I heard a voice say, it was Colby speaking as he hopped off the counter. I laughed as I turned around and looked at his hair that was dyed almost the same as mine. "Right back at ya" I replied. "I'm Colby by the way. I've never seen you at pizza night" he said now leaning against the counter. "Umm, yeah I just moved to L.A. My friend Jules brought me." I said taking a sip of my drink. "Oh you're a friend of Jules. You must be cool than to be friends with her" he laughed. His laugh was intoxicating yet just the right amount of cute. I then heard Jules yell from across the room "MADDY, COME HERE" she was motioning me to come dance with her and the other girls in the living room area. "Sorry to cut this short but when Jules calls I go. Come find me later?" I questioned, "for sure. Go have fun" Colby said with a half smile.

Later as the night went on people were leaving and others were showing up fashionably late and I was sat in a small foyer at the top of a spiral stair case that over looked the apartment, nursing my third drink of the night watching everyone socializing downstairs. I had to get away from the drunk yelling and dancing for a bit, I was still exhausted from my move I just wanted to crawl into bed and sleep for days. "Hey, all alone up here are we?" I heard a voice say, it was Colby. He sat next to be on a big bean bag chair. "Yeah, I had to get away from all that for a bit. My move exhausted me but I came for Jules" I said as Colby sipped his drink. "Fair enough. So where did you move from?" He asked leaning back on the bean bag chair. "Toronto" I said following his lead and leaning back also. "Wow that's a big move. Well, welcome to L.A Canadian girl" I laughed at that.

Colby and I continued to talk for another hour before Tara told me that Jules needed to get home because she was throwing up in the bathroom. "Alright Colby I think it's time I take Jules home and call to a night for the both of us." I said as I got up off the chair and before Colby could say anything I was gone.
