The sky began crying as they made their way through the winding roads, it seemed as through some force was trying to push Madeline and her mother, Caroline, off the road. It was nearly 1 in the morning as she drove, not even a care in the road she hadn't even gotten her liscense. They had all of their important belongings packed away in boxes while a u haul man had already made it to the small town of hemlock grove. Madeline's mother sat sleeping peacefully in the passenger seat of their tiny little fiat. Maddy wondered why her mother had bothered buying such a tiny car, they never really used it while they lived in New York, they'd just walk everywhere. Madeline rubbed her eyes, the sleep clouding her eyes. As she regained focus she saw a house come into view, a rather large house. She started in amazement as she got closer to the beautiful home. Columns lined the outside, beautiful hedge work surrounded the outside, she looked down at the GPS. "Holy. Fuckin. Shit." She whispered to herself when she realized the GPS was telling her to go straight to that same house she sat adorning. "No fuckin way." Her mother jumped up and looked around, screams beginning to fill the car. "Turn around mads. I sense evil. Turn around and take me home!" Madeline slammed on brakes and turned towards her mother, she grabbed her face and looked into her eyes. "Mom. Shhh. Shhh. It's okay. I won't let a thing happen to you." Her mother finally calmed down and looked around. "I don't like this place." Madeline ignored her deranged mother's pleads to take her back to New York and let her die, she couldn't keep doing this with her mother. She was a 16 year old, she was supposed to be out being reckless, drinking, smoking, partying. But not now, she had a dying mother to look after which meant she had to grow up, and fast. The car pulled into the mansion as a woman stood outside smiling. She was tall, very slim, her long black hair reminded Madeline of her friend Stacy from back home. As the car came to a stop the woman walked closer opening up the passenger side door, "you must be Caroline and Madeline st. Claire. My names Olivia Godfrey, of Godfrey institutes." She held a hand out for Caroline to take, she look at it as if Olivia has the Ebola flu. "I got it." Caroline hissed, Madeline mentally scoleded her mother as she walked around the car coming face to face with Olivia. "I'm sorry. It's been a long trip and we're both tired. I'm Madeline, the daughter." She stuck her hand out to properly say hello to the beautiful woman who opened her home up to her. "Pleasure. My dear you are very beautiful. I must inform you, my son has quite the eye for the finer things. I must tell him to stear clear." Olivia let out a small chuckle as Madeline nervously laughed. "Why thank you. And I must say you have such a lovely home!" Madeline looked passed Cordelia and admired the home from a better view. Caroline making her way into the front door, "oh mom. Please stay by us! You don't know where to go!" Madeline shouted, jogging towards her wandering mother. "Stairs, left, right. Your room across mine." Caroline looked around the door frame, her eyes darting around everywhere. "She's right." Olivia said while joining us, wondering just how she New that. "If you'd like to settle her in I'll show you around the home. Your things have arrived and I took the liberty in decorating and in packing, I do hope you don't mind." We made our way towards the elevator and pressed the 3rd floor, "not at all. If it were me I'd have left everything in boxes. Thank you very much." Olivia lifted her hand as if saying 'not a problem.'

"And this is our last stop for the night, the kitchen. Feel free to rummage through the cabinets, get familer with where everything is. If there's food you'd like us to specially get just make sure to get a list together by Friday's. Do you have any questions?" Olivia asked Madeline as she walked around the massive kitchen opening drawers, cabinets and last the fridge. "No, I think I've got it covered." Madeline turned around and looked at Olivia, "thank you. Very much. You have no idea what this means to me." Olivia smiled and nodded her head. "Just think, your mother will be the first of many. Goodnight madeline." Olivia turned around and began to decend into the darkness. Madeline stood in the middle of the kitchen, 2:45am, the clock read above the stove. As if on cue her stomach growled, she smiled and walked back over to the fridge and pulled out some grape jelly. She found the bread and made her 3 PB&J sandwiches. She began biting into the sand which almost moaning in pleasure when she heard shuffling from behind her, she grabbed the butter knife and held it up. A boy stood underneath it, his hands up looking terrified at the sight. "Who are you?" He hissed not taking his eyes off Madeline, "Madeline st. Claire. Who the hell are you?" The boy began laughing as his hands dropped to his side "the owner of the house you're living in rent free. And who's food you're eating." Madeline quickly put the knife down as she felt her checks heat up. He slid his arms behind her and grabbed a sand which, sitting down and taking a bite his eyes canvassed her. "I'm Roman, Godfrey." She sat beside him looking him over. He was quite a beautiful boy. Dirty blonde slicked back hair, emerald cut eyes, a jawline so defined he could cut diamonds, and his frame was built. Not buff but not skinny. "Like what you see?" Roman said whilst taking a bite out of his sand which, Madeline's checks began to burn of embarrassment 'did he just catch me checking him out? Fucking hell!' She thought to herself. "Yeno, about the house?" He said pointing up and chuckling. Madeline relaxed in her seat, "oh yeah. Very beautiful. And it seems easy to get lost in. Thankful there's an elevator, I got tired of the walking back home." Madeline said while finishing her sand which, she went to grab the other when her and romans hand met. Bolts of electricity corded through her body as she jerked back. "You can have it." She belted. Roman grabbed the butter knife and cut the sand which down in half, "it's probably been a long drive from New York. Here." He held out the other half of the sand which, Madeline thanked him and began to shovel the food into her mouth. "How'd you know I'm from New York?" Madeline asked while finishing her sand which, she stood up whipping down the table from crusts and made her way to the utensil drawer where she found a spoon. "Well I am owner of Godfrey industries." Madeline grabbed the container of peanut butter and returned sitting back down, "aren't you like 16?" Roman chuckled, "17. 18 in a few months and then after that it's all mine. If it weren't for me you wouldn't be here eating my peanut butter." Roman stuck his find in the container and retreated with a big ole glob one his finger. "Well thank you for this opportunity, and these mean ole Sammy's." He chuckled and nodded his head, his eyes staring deep into mine. "Well. I'm gonna get to bed. Long day ahead of me. Yeno, school and shit. It's gonna be nice to be able to be a normal teenager." She stood up and cleaned up her mess, Roman following behind her. "Yeah, agree there. Goodnight Madeline." He waved to her as she entered the elevator, she waved back as the gates closed, "night Roman."
Little did she know this boy would change her definition of normal, forever.
