We tuned in to the radio on the 3rd of September, 1939, on foreign land. All we received was that Britain and France had fulfilled their promises and declared war on Deutschland.

This was it.

World War II.

The inevitable had arrived. Decades had passed since the War to End All Wars ended, and another war had begun.

The radioman tried to convince everyone that Deutschland would win the war, but so had he convinced that Britain and France would not declared war on us.

Even Friedrich with his usual "Deutschland über alles" demeanor was not shining at this.

"This was what made the Jews think we lost..." he commented. "A two-front war."

We expected to be transferred to France immediately, but no such thing happened. Poland was to be finished first. Such a gamble was risky, but worth it if it paid off.

We sat on our Panzer, watching the sunrise. We might never have the chance again, having the war turning to a full-blown one.
