"It's been too long." You mutter, clutching a pillow to your chest. "He can teleport, geez, why isn't he here?"
"The simplest explanation is that he is dead." Herobrine responds bluntly. "I am not any happier about it than you are, but we have to accept the possibility."
"But what if he's not??" You protest.
"Well, where else would he be??"
"I don't know! Maybe he got hurt?"
"It doesn't take a lot of damage to kill an Enderman." Herobrine turns to give you a strange look. "Why do you care so much?"
"I dunno, maybe 'cause he was my only companion for weeks? Maybe 'cause he was the only friend you let me have??" You smush your face into the pillow. "He was around way more than you were, and you're my husband."
"You know everything I'm dealing with, especially now! Those mobs would have killed you if I hadn't stepped in!"
"Yeah, maybe you should've been there with me to protect me beforehand! What if Manfred wasn't there??"
"He was there, because I sent him to take care of you. And you act as if you prefer him over me any day." You open your mouth to snap back, but he puts a hand up to stop you. "Look, Y/N, I'm sorry. I know you're upset. It won't be the same, but I will send another Enderman to guard you."
You glance up miserably as he crosses the room towards you, getting down on one knee to look you in the eyes. "I am sorry that I cannot make you happy. I know you didn't ask for this role." **** right you didn't. "Tell me, what can I do that will make you feel better? Anything in my power." You blink damp eyes at him over the pillow. Did he... actually care?
"...anything?" You echo, voice muffled by the pillow. He nods. "Even bring Steve here?" In spite of his lack of pupils, you can almost feel him rolling his eyes at you.
"Very well." He gets to his feet, then vanishes. You barely have time to wonder if he's actually gonna do it before he returns, dragging the shocked miner with him. "If you want him here, he is your responsibility. I will order the guards to leave him alone so long as he is not griefing or robbing my base." Herobrine states. "I must return to business." And with that, he vanished.
Steve's eyes sweep the room before landing on you, still perched on the edge of the bed with a pillow tucked into your chest. "Y/N?" He asks uncertainly. You nod wordlessly. "What... am I doing here?"
"I, uh." You shift. "Herobrine said he'd do something for me and I asked him to bring you here. 'Cause my friend the Enderman went missing."
"...ah." He glances at the door. "Can I sit?"
"Yeah, yeah." He sinks down on the bed next to you.
"So you're back in the Nether, huh?"
"The place I was staying got attacked, so I had to move back here." You heave a sigh into the pillow. "And Manfred disappeared."
"Mm." Steve pauses, then speaks. "I managed to contact Notch."
"Oh?" You lift your head. "What did he say?"
"He was... not happy, for sure. He said he could probably put you back, but it would take a great deal of power." You muse over this information for a few moments. If he and Herobrine had about the same amount of power, did that mean it was really hard on your husband to leave the game? Was that why she barely saw him the first couple of days once he'd gotten her settled in?
"Is he gonna try to help me?"
"He said he would." Steve pats your shoulder. "Don't worry, kid. We'll get you home." You sigh.
