I finish clearing the table and load the dishwasher, before taking the remains of the bottle of wine and two glasses down to Lucy's room.
I didn't give her the chance to turn me away, just let myself in and joined her on the bed, sitting cross legged facing her and pouring the wine before handing her a glass.
"He told you" she whispered and I nodded waiting for her to speak, but she drains the glass first.
"He had helped me load the car, in fact those last two days he had helped me do other things, seemed more interested, then he kissed me... it was everything I had dreamed of, you know tingles and hearts syncing rubbish you read about but never believe will happen to you. I don't know how long the kiss was, but it was... wow and then, then he had looked at me. Up and down, then he turned and walked away" I watched the tear run down her cheek and wanted to pull her close but she wasn't finished.
"I know Pau... he has been fighting it, I know he thinks he's too old, I watched him walk away from me, I thought he would maybe, be in touch, come round or something, but now I know he doesn't see me the same way. I know he's been avoiding me, avoiding coming here"
"Lucy" I put my hand out and she grasps it, but shakes her head.
"I can't do this with him, I won't. Just let me know what dates you are free but please I don't want to deal with him if I don't have too" she begs quietly and I nod, hoping that Paul recognises what he's lost and does something about it before it's too late.
