The sun had barely come out when I was at the cottage. I hadn't talked to her in a while. But I needed to see her, she was the one who saved me the first time I almost drowned. It wasn't like the second one, different reason. She's the only friend I have right now.
I knocked loudly, not really caring if I woke her up, she has a lot of time to sleep whenever she wants.

"It's me! Queenie! The girl that washed over the river. Open up!"
After like an hour of yelling and knocking she up.

"Okay, you can stop now. My neighbors will give complaints."

"Oh no. I would hate to bother the foxes and beavers."
We pull each other to a tight hug. Then she leads me inside, I hadn't spent more than a year here, but when I walk in I feel safe. I look around while she makes us some warm drinks. I picked up a music box, it brought back so many memories.

A girl sat on the floor staring at the dancing ice skater figure. It had been two weeks since Kare had taken her in her home, she hasn't said more than two words. She'd just spend her days staring at the music box or at the fire that heated up the house.

"You know you don't have to tell me every single thing about you, but it'd be nice to at least know your name."

The girl remained silent, and after awhile of waiting Karen was starting to retreat, ready to try her luck the next day.

"Queenie. My name is Queenie."

What made that day different? Why did Queenie decide that day to answer that question? Who knows? But Karen was overjoyed that she had closer to Queenie.

"So what brings you here? It's been so long." she handed me a cup of hot cocoa, like old times.

"I needed a friend. But Anne is all the way in London, so I guess you'll have to do.", we laughed together.

", we laughed together

And for what felt like 60 hours, we had fun together. We talked, we drank hot chocolate, we played rummy, solitaire, war, crazy eights, and some other card games, at some point we even made a card house. I told her about everything that has been going on. All the things I've recently found out.
