You watched customers as you idly sat behind the prize counter of the arcade, occasionally helping a guest, but it was rather slow today, likely thanks to the rain that was forecasted to come. You’d been working there for a few months now and you loved it. The atmosphere was fun, and the customers were, for the most part, fun to interact with. There was one in particular you seemed to enjoy the most: Noriaki Kakyoin, a boy about your age with red hair and the cutest cherry earrings. He had a sweet smile that he would flash at you when he saw you, making your heart flutter. It was dumb, you knew, to have a crush on someone you only saw maybe every week or so, during your work shift, but you couldn’t help it. You didn’t go to the same school, so you didn’t know anything about him really, aside from he liked to occasionally play video games and had a stern looking friend he would tow around with him sometimes. His friend never seemed to play, or show any interest at all, instead he just stood behind the sweet boy with the violet eyes, with his hands buried in his pockets.

Your head automatically looked to the door as you heard it open, face gaining a dusting of red when you saw the familiar green uniform. You saw him looking curiously at the new game the arcade had just gotten in, luckily in close proximity to where you were stationed. You hadn’t gotten a chance to play it yourself, but apparently it was rather hard, based on the feedback you’d received about it. You side stepped closer to him, still behind the counter, before getting the courage to speak. “That’s our newest machine, it’s a hard one apparently.” You chuckled nervously as he turned towards you, a gentle smile on his lips. “Oh? I’ve been looking for a challenge.” He said a hint of cockiness in his voice. “What do I get if I get the high score?” You blinked, unsure.

“Uh,” Your eyes traveled along the prize wall behind you, wondering why he’d want any of the bright colored plastic garbage you gave to small children. There were a few bigger items, dart guns and large plush animals, but nothing really of value. You shrugged at him, “I guess whatever prize you want.” If your manager complained about you giving away a toy worth a few cents, or a couple dollars at most, you’d just cover the cost yourself. His purple hued eyes seemed to light up, smile broadening. “Alright, (Y/n), I’ll be back for my prize in a bit.” He said with a wink, which made your heart skip a beat, face turning a dark red as he walked away to the arcade cabinet.

You’d been watching from your place behind the counter for hours now. Coin after coin, Kakyoin tried his best to beat the machine, but failed each time. The amount of money he’d spent could probably pay for the entire prize wall and then some; your manager would be proud. It was nearing closing time, which wasn’t very strictly enforced so long as there were customers putting money in the machines. At the moment, it was only Kakyoin and a few other stragglers, everyone else had called it a day, or had spent all they had. You watched as the red head’s shoulders slumped in defeat once more, your heart going out to the poor boy.

“Sorry, Kakyoin, better luck next time.” You said. You’d been offering small encouraging words throughout the day to him, telling him that he was doing great and such, which he would thank you and give you that heart melting smile of his. You wondered if he was this way with every girl, but tried to convince yourself that you were somehow special. You mentally snorted, as if Kakyoin was going to have feelings for the dork behind the prize counter. He drew himself back up to his full height, and retrieved another coin from his jacket. He looked back at you over his shoulder, holding the coin up so you could see, “Last one. Kiss for good luck?” Your eyes widened as your face turned deep red. You chuckled nervously as you jokingly blew him a kiss from behind the counter, wondering what in the world gave you the courage to do such a thing; you could barely order food over the phone, let alone blow a kiss to your secret crush. He seemed almost off guard that you’d played along, face gaining a pink tint as he turned back to the game, putting the coin in.

You said a cheerful good-bye to the last customers, turning to tell Kakyoin that it was past closing, but a victorious cry cut you off. “I did it, (Y/n)! Look!” He exclaimed excitedly, hands curled into fists as he turned to you his eyes shining with joy; it was precious. You raised a brow, looking past him at the screen. Sure enough, there was the ‘High Score’ screen, along with four little blank squares to put in a name. You watched as the tall red head put in ‘Kaki’, stepping back as the screen flashed up all the various names, his being the one on the top of course.

“I knew you could do it!” You said, his mesmerizing eyes looking into yours. “It was your lucky kiss that did it.” He said softly, making your smile falter in sheer confusion. “Y-yeah?” You said with a laugh, wondering what on earth was happening. Before you could do or say anything dumb, you motioned behind the prize counter and up the prize-covered walls. “Alright, well, see anything you like?” He stepped up to the prize counter and looked over everything, his eyes finally settling on you, or so it looked like. “Yeah, actually.” You turned to look behind you, trying to see what he was looking at, which caused him to laugh; it was sweet and melodious. You turned back to him, confused at why he was laughing. “I was looking at you.” You blinked in confusion, brain not registering his words. He leaned on the counter, a smile on his lips as he looked at you. “I want a kiss.” Your heart stopped. Surely this was a dream. You had fallen asleep at work and this was a dream.

“Wait, what?” You didn’t mean to sound so clueless, but truth be told, you were clueless in this moment. “Earlier you said that I could choose whatever prize I want. I wanted a kiss, which is why I was determined to get the high score.” You couldn’t help but laugh, turning away and trying your best, but failing, to conceal it with your fist. He looked surprised at the sudden outbursts at first, but soon joined in the laughter.

“You wasted your entire day and who knows how much money, just for a kiss?” You laughed in disbelief, face red from both your crush admitting to want to kiss you and laughter. “Kakyoin, you’re-“ You didn’t even know what to say, “ You’re adorable.” You nearly slapped a hand to your mouth at the admittance, but the look on his face was priceless, making you hardly even regret it. His face was as red as his hair was, a crooked grin on his surprised face. “You didn’t have to spend stupid amounts of money just for a kiss.”

“I’ll keep that in mind for next time.” He leaned heavily over the counter, still taller than you as he looked at you from over the small bit of counter between the two of you. Your heart was fluttering in your chest as you leaned in as well, lips meeting. You both smiled into the kiss, his lips soft, likely from the cherry lip balm he’d been using all day; you’d wondered why he was so adamant about applying it at various intervals, and now you knew. One of his hands came up and gently cupped your jaw, the other holding his weight up as he leaned in even more. You felt another surge of bravery overcome you as one of your hands “walked” with two fingers over to his and gently rested atop it. The two of you broke apart, but neither of you retreated back, instead foreheads resting together. “I’ve wanted to do that for a while.” He shyly admitted before giving you another kiss, just as tender as the first was. You both once again, broke away, each one a blushing mess, looking shyly away from one another.

“I, um, it-“ You couldn’t form coherent sentences at the moment, still star-struck by the gentleness of his lips against yours. “I need to close, but I- we- I… Jeez.” You said flustered. He seemed to get the hint, leaning back, allowing you to close shop as he stood outside the front door waiting for you. Your heart was going a mile a minute as you fumbled with closing out everything. You took a deep breath before heading to the front door, Kakyoin leaning against the wall as you did your best to not drop your keys as your hand slightly shook. You test the door to make sure it’s locked before turning your attention back to the boy who won a kiss. “Hey.” He said softly, kicking off the wall to stand in front of you, shyly playing with the curl in front of his face. “Um, hey.” You replied, noticing he was much taller than you perceived him to be. “Do you think we could try that again, this time without the counter in the way?” He asked with a lopsided grin, your heart skipping a beat. You pretend to think, index finger on your chin.

“Hmmm… well, I suppose we could try.” He wasted no time, once more cupping your chin and tilting your head up as he kissed you, his other arm bringing you closer. One of your hands rested lightly on his shoulder while the other ran through the hair at the base of his neck, feeling how soft it was. He kissed the corner of your mouth, giving you a peck on the cheek as well before he leaned his forehead against yours, eyes shut as he inhaled deeply, the hand the held your face shifted into your hair, softly toying with it. “I think this is the best prize I’ve ever won.” He said dreamily, making you giggle.

“This is the best prize I’ve ever given, I think.”
