"Almost there..." A voice teased next to your ear.
You were currently being led by Josuke through his house, his hands over your eyes to prevent you from seeing. He'd been hyper nearly all week at school, eager to have you over; more so than normal it seemed. It was normal for you, Okuyasu, and Koichi to hang out at Josuke's house, so this wasn't out of the ordinary really. To the other two, it was obvious that you had a crush on the pompadour sporting teen, but Josuke never seemed to notice; you were just another one of the guys, which was a blessing and a curse. You got the ability to be Josuke's friend and enjoy his friendship, but that sadly meant that you weren't a romantic candidate for him apparently. "And..." He drew the word out, his body right behind yours as he stopped you, "Ta-da!" His hands flew away from your eyes as you adjusted to the brightness, taking in your surroundings. You were standing in the doorway to his room, which at first looked as it always did, but upon closer inspection there were a few changes. There were more pillows on the bed than usual and in the middle of the room there was something sitting on an overturned laundry basket. "Surprise!" Josuke announced excitedly, entering your field of vision from over your shoulder as he gave you a dazzling smile.
You blinked, "Um, yay?" You asummed that whatever was on top of the laundry basket was the 'surprise'. His smile quickly fell as he rolled his eyes, pushing you fully into his room, "It's a projector! We can watch those terrible black and white movies you like. It'll be great!" Your face turned red a bit, turning to regard him, " They're not terrible!" He gave you a deadpan look, clearly not convinced, "OK, well maybe they're not the best acting-wise, but they're still good movies." You defended to the taller boy who skirted around you and began to set up the projector while you flopped onto his bed, close to the edge, inhaling the scent that you came to enjoy so much. It was like a warm amber scent that was almost floral-like; it matched him perfectly as opposed to something more spice based or musky. You rose up on your elbows, watching him work, a smile on his face.
"Shouldn't we wait for the others?" His hands stopped working, eyes widening a bit as his face took on a blush. He looked over at you, scratching the back of his neck, "They, uh, they're sick, so they can't come." He said quickly before going back to setting up. That was odd, you saw Okuyasu and Koichi just yesterday and they both seemed fine. You pursed your lips, idly wondering if they'd caught something from school or something before your eyes widened. If they weren't coming that meant it was just you and Josuke. You and Josuke watching movies together, alone, in his bed. Your throat went dry as you tried to reason that it was no different than all the other times you were with him in his room with the others. Just two friends hanging out watching movies. Right.
A square of light appeared on the wall, Josuke letting out a cry of excitement as he jumped up and flicked his light switch off, now the only light was coming from the projector. You suddenly felt self conscious of everything. You never had this issue when you were with the others, you usually all just piled around the bed without a care in the world. How were you supposed to lay? Were you supposed to just stay on "your side" or maybe you were supposed to sit up, or maybe lay on your stomach and watch like that? You just remained glued to the spot as Josuke laid down on the bed, having put some old horror movie on, likely intending on making fun of it the full duration. You lay there rigidly, your elbows starting to bother you from the awkward position you'd locked yourself into. Josuke began commentating on the movie, you awkwardly laughing a few times, trying to just act natural and not embarrass yourself in front of the guy you liked. He looked over at you, his blue eyes still bright even in the dull light of the projected movie, probably noticing that you looked more like a body stricken with rigor mortis than a relaxed person just enjoying a movie. He rolled over, body facing you as he used his elbow to prop his head up, "You OK?" He asked, poking your cheek playfully.
"Y-yeah, I'm fine." You squeaked out, throat nearly closed thanks to your twitterpation at the close proximity. He moved his hand from your cheek to your forehead, placing his warm palm against it, "You're not getting sick too, are you?" You inwardly began screaming, shifting away slightly only to remember you're on the edge of the bed. "I'm fine, I'm just..." You swatted his hand away, trying to come up with an excuse for you acting like a complete dork, "I'm just watching the movie." He eyed you for a moment, likely seeing through your flimsy lie, as you tried to pretend to focus on the movie and not how close Josuke was. "Here," You inwardly began to panic as his arms encircled you, shifting you closer towards the middle of the bed, consequently closer to him as well, "You were right on the edge of the bed." You both were now in the middle, one of his arms pinned under you, hand resting against your waist, the other under his head as he shifted back a bit, propping himself up a bit by the pillow mountain he'd made for the occasion. You hoped that he couldn't feel how fast your heart was beating right now. Josuke touching you wasn't completely foreign, as you two would hug, just as you would hug your other friends, but this was something different. This was new.
You could barely even hear the movie over the sound of the thoughts whirling in your mind, and trying to not focus on every little movement you body or his made. Every now and then his fingers would slightly twitch against your side, which made you wonder if that was something that normally happened with him or if he was just as nervous as you were.
"He's going to die first, I just know it." Josuke said, his breath ghosting against your skin making you tense up. "Heh, yeah, probably." You said, chuckling nervously, having no idea what the hell the plot of this movie even was. "Are, uh, are you comfortable?" Josuke asked, a nervous tinge in his voice. You nodded in response, not trusting your voice to not crack. "That's good." He pulled you a bit closer with his arm, rubbing his thumb against your side. You managed to coax yourself into relaxing a bit more, your mind still going a mile a minute, as you wondered if you would be able to put an arm around him, or was that too far; were you mistaking this whole situation? You chanced a glance up, looking up at him to find that his blue eyes were on you, the both of you quickly looking away having been caught by the other. You drummed up your courage, mentally counting to three before you shifted to your side, your head now laying on his chest. His body tensed up a bit, as if unsure of what to do for a second before his other arm came down, resting across your upper back, inhaling deeply as pressed his nose to the crown of your head. Surely, if he didn't feel the same he would have said something.
"Josuke," you lifted your head and looked at him, his eyes losing their usual spark of confidence, as his throat bobbed with nervousness, "The others, they're not really sick, are they?" His eyes widened, face turning a dark crimson as he sputtered out a laugh, "W-what do you mean?" A few hairs sprung out from his normally no-hair-out-of-place-pompadour, a tell-tale sign that he was on edge. "You didn't call them, did you?" His shoulders sagged a bit, eyes looking away from you as he moved his hand, scratching his cheek with a finger.
"No. No, (Y/n), I didn't call them." He admitted sheepishly, a change from the usually confident teen you'd come to adore. You couldn't help but laugh a bit, the situation so obvious now. "So, you did all this, just for me?" You asked with a raised brow, heart fluttering at the idea. He gave you a nervous lopsided smile, "Yeah, I- yeah." Your heart skipped a beat as the two of you just looked at one another, the movie behind you long forgotten. Your eyes roamed his face, memorizing him, even though it felt like you'd already committed all of his various emotions to memory; this was a new one. You didn't even notice the two of you moving closer to one another, it wasn't until his hand tilted your chin a bit did you take note, closing your eyes as his plush lips pressed against yours. A sweet chaste kiss that made your heart hammer against your ribs. You moved back a bit, looking away as you tried to hide the goofy grin that spread across your face.
"I guess now is a good time to tell you I like you?" You asked, feeling nervous saying it aloud. His usual cocky grin returned to his face, as he turned your face back towards him, planting a quick kiss on your lips before resting his forehead against yours, "I guess now's a good time to ask if you want to be my girlfriend?" Your eyes widened as you ducked your head into his chest in embarrassment. "You're such a dork." You said, voice muffled by his shirt. "I don't know what you said, but I'm going to assume you said something along the lines of 'yes'."
(I didn't edit this so hopefully it's semi-coherent lol)
Josuke is such a cutie, but for some reason my brain just goes blank when trying to write him
Reeee (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
Which is why this is so short (and probably way out of character), but I'm a sucker for pompadours tbh.
