"When am I going to see you again?" Nicholas asked while I shut the car door.
"I don't know" I shrugged, leaning down and resting my elbow on the car window. "Maybe when I post a picture on Instagram?"
Caroline fell in a laughing spree while I chuckled slightly. "So very funny" Nicholas grumbled. "It's Sia's birthday tomorrow" He reminded me.
"I know Summer, I'll be there in the morning at Andrew's place. Now sh-"
A loud grumble of engine surprised me. Partly because our neighbourhood was really quiet and partly because it was the sound of a motorcycle, the same kind which my father drove. I straightened up and fixed my eyes on the driver as he zoomed towards the highway, speeding past Nicholas' car.
That wasn't my father, my dad was fat whether he appeared... fit. Just before taking the turn towards the highway, he looked behind. My breath stuck in my throat when I realised that he had caught me staring. I could see my reflection on the chromium part of his black helmet as he turned front and sped away again.
"Who was that?"
I turned to see both Nicholas and Caroline staring at the empty turn. Well great, it wasn't just me who was stunned. "I have no idea" I shrugged.
"That was a limited edition Ducati-"
"Diavel AMG" I completed. "Chuck that, I'll be there tomorrow okay? Get lost now" I added before taking a step back and starting my walk towards my house.
"I love you too babe" I heard Nicholas yell before he drove off.
"Idiot." I cursed as I climbed up the stairs to the door and unlocked it. I had to change before I went over to the new neighbours. My hair was in knots from letting the breeze play with it as long as I was in the car and my clothes made me look like a homeless drug addict.
Once I was in my room, I went forward and opened the window. Thanking heavens that the lights of my neighbour's room were switched off. I can have my freedom now.
I picked out a blue denim and a white tee for a the night. I rarely wore dresses, and by rarely I mean never. It's not that I hate dresses. I just liked my denims too much. Turning the water to warm, I started the shower. I stayed away from the spray of water at first since the water stays chilly, but once it turned warm I stepped in. Letting the warm water soothe me and my aching feet. Nicholas owed me more than he can ever think. Right from making me walk all around the carnival to tolerating the two most evil looking girls I've ever seen in my life.
I wrapped my hairs in a towel before shimmying in to my jeans, the white tee was full sleeved but it was cold outside so I decided to get my denim jacket over it. Dabbing some moisturiser over my face I started drying my hair. I had them permanently straightened so I didn't need to worry about tying them up. Once I was done, I put on my signature eyeliner and a dab of pink lipstick.
Well now I wouldn't have to worry about mom biting my ears of for not looking presentable. Spritzing some perfume at last I decided I was good to go. I closed the window of my room before descending downstairs. Once I had my shoes on I locked the front door and started my solitary walk to the neighbours.
Their house was bigger than ours, maybe they had more rooms or a bigger backyard or maybe both. I couldn't decide from outside. I opened their front gate and was about to step in when someone called me from behind. Turning around I saw it was Mrs Alkaev's daughter, Sasha.
She beamed at my direction. I returned a grin of mine as she walked over too me. "Hey gorgeous" She hollered, slinging her hand over my shoulder.
"Hello and happy new year Missy" I laughed. "Where have you been? I'm pretty sure it's been a week since I last saw you"
"I went out of town" She sighed, tucking the locks of her long hair behind her hairs. "For a much needed breath of fresh air"
I nodded, not wanting to probe her.
"How're you?" She asked as we climbed the few stairs to reach the door.
I pressed the bell and turned to her. Sure that she'd find the answer in my weak smile and when she gave an understanding sigh, I knew she did find the answer and it was not because we knew each other for years, it was because we knew the situations we were in.
"Oh my two of my beautiful girls together!"
"Happy new year Mr Alkaev" I grinned while he invited us in the warm home of our neighbours.
"Damn Aunt Ellen, you've turned the house into a mansion" Sasha muttered once we walked to the living room. I had to agree with her, the house looked furnished at its best.
"After all I'm an interior designer sweety, oh dear is this the Trinity I've been hearing about everyday?" Aunt Ellen, or Mrs Alkaev's sister grinned looking at my direction. I turned to see my mother grinning while standing beside Mrs Alkaev. While both my mother and Mrs Alkaev looked the same age, her sister looked a bit older than them however she was not less bubbly than them, I didn't need another minute to know that.
As I heard from my mother, Mr Volkov was a war pilot whose death was the sole reason for his family moving here. "Hello Mrs-" I was about to greet her when the door behind me opened, making me jump and stumble over Sasha.
"Did I interrupt?" He asked, dropping the helmet on the couch beside him.
"Oh look who it is, the mighty Erik!" Sasha retorted, crossing her arms over her chest. "As if his face-"
The door opened again, and this time it was Sasha who stumbled because she was standing right in front of the door.
"Hello, from the other side" The second interrupter sang. I scowled. Who sings after pushing a girl with a door? "Oops. I had no idea you were in front of the door" He added, answering my accusing stare on his back.
"Xerxes" Mrs Volkov glared at him.
Interrupter two, raised his hands up in surrender and that's when I noticed the helmet in his hands. Chromium visor of his helmet, on which I had seen my reflection, was a dead giveaway that it was him who saw me staring at him for no reason at all.
"Relax mama" He winked walking over to Mrs Volkov.
Mrs Volkov rolled her eyes before turning to me. "Hello to you too darling. These are my sons, Erik and Xerxes." She smiled.
"Rather two monkeys" Sasha snorted from beside me.
I rolled my lower lip in between my teeth to hold back the chuckle that was threatening to escape but anyone else didn't. They laughed together, even Xerxes and Erik found some humour in being insulted.
"Okay okay go freshen up you both" Mrs Alkaev said. Ushering Erik up from the sofa.
Xerxes followed Erik as they started ascending the steps, but before that, Xerxes chucked the chromium visored helmet to Erik saying something that had my attention in seconds.
"Here's your helmet"
My head snapped towards Erik to find him staring at me already, as if waiting for me to react. I offered him a tight lipped smile. Guess we were even now since I had caught him staring too.
