Erik moved out of his aunt's house in early April. It consisted of a whole lot of crying from Mrs Volkov but she was sobered up with constant assurances from Erik that he'd be over during weekends.
Xerxes hand had healed up and he helped Erik along with me, even though he talked more than working. He would either end up making some innuendos or throwing subtle flirty remarks, but Erik told me not to mind it since it was a part of Xerxes, he didn't do it intentionally, it was who he was.
I couldn't stop wondering how much he resembled Nicholas, only in respect of personality though. Nicholas wasn't that pale, his eyes were hazel and Xerxes' had grey eyes like his mother's.
I also met two of Erik's friends and their girlfriends on the day of his home inaugural party. Andrei and his girlfriend Rachel, Nate and his girlfriend Navya. By the end of the party, I was surprised to think how much of a part I had become in Erik's life over these few days. We shared things, we talked almost everyday at night and I was involved in almost all the events of his life.
I wondered if it was as frightening to him as it was to me to accept new people in his life.
People are so unpredictable, you have no idea when they'll change their mind. You have no idea when they'll leave you with nothing but a hollow ache in your chest.
I sighed and took out the headphones from my ears. I was in the metro, on my way to home as after a day filled with Edgar Allan Poe. It had taken exactly two forty minute classes for the teacher to completely explain Raven. I was supposed to join Sebastian, Nicholas and Scarlett for their day out at beach today but I couldn't miss the classes. However, I was going to join them for dinner.
It was almost twilight when I reached home. I quickly dropped the bag and showered before leaving the house. Since I was late, no surprise there, I asked them to select a restaurant close to my home. The closest they could agree on was a thirty minute drive from my place so when I reached the beach front restaurant called Sea Chef, the sun was already below the horizon.
Sebastian was the first to spot me, it wasn't hard since I wore a black tee with black jeans and tied a fennel shirt around my waist. I always had something or the other black in my outfit.
"Oh look whose here finally" Nicholas clapped as I took the seat between him and Scarlett.
"Okay I got late, spare me from the sarcasm I'm not in the mood" I snapped. Nick rolled his eyes and turned his attention to the menu.
Things had been so very messed up with him lately. All of it began the next month after my birthday, at first Nick stopped answering my texts, then he stopped taking my calls and as a result we stopped meeting. He would ditch the group on the days I came to meet them. I had absolutely no idea what was going wrong until I heard that Sia had started dating Nick.
All I said was "what!" when Scarlett informed me about this. Sia never uttered a word about this to any of us, neither did Nick. Scarlett saw them together, holding hands and hanging out with Nick's friends. When Sebastian asked Nick about it, he had said that he didn't feel it was necessary to let us know about this.
It was almost frightening how much he had changed, but truly, it never surprised me. I had stopped expecting things from people and started expecting things out of me. I was happier this way.
"How was your class?" Sebastian asked, keeping the menu by his side and looking up at me.
I pointed the dish I wanted to Scarlett so she could order for me. "I'd have failed in the exams if I hadn't taken this class, the poem is so complicated" I said, hating the fear bubbling up in my chest thinking about the exams.
"Yeah right, you want me to-"
"I gotta go" We all turned to Nick who had gotten up on his feet and was picking up his bag. "I'm not hungry and I have to pick Sia up", with this he pushed his chair back and started walking out without even waiting for our replies.
I followed him. I wasn't going to take someone's attitude for no reason. He stopped at the parking lot in front of his car, but I caught him before he could get in.
"What the fućk is your problem?" He sneered, tearing his hand out of my grip.
I leaned against the door of his car to prevent him from getting inside at any cost. "I should be asking the same question to you" I said.
"Oh I thought I had made it obvious by now" He shrugged, "You're my problem"
"And since when did this happen Nicholas?"
"None of your fucking business, and get off my car I'm getting late to pick my girlfriend up"
I could see that he was getting irked, his breaths came faster, his voice was louder than usual but I didn't let that phase me, partly because I knew Sebastian was standing at the entrance of the parking lot but Nick couldn't see him since he had his back turned to me.
"Can you fucking move?"
I folded my hands across my chest and shrugged. "Not until you tell me why you've been behaving this way and I don't deserve any of the shit you've been dishing out on me so it's better you speak up quick"
"Oh you deserve every single bit of disrespect you're getting from me Trinity."
I was taken aback for seconds but I didn't let it show. Instead, I laughed. "You can't push me around with that tone and some harsh words. If you gotta problem with me, man up and say it, but if you think your dramatics can stop me from being with my friends then you can stop thinking 'cause that ain't gonna work."
His jaw clenched "I don't give a fuck to what affects you and what doesn't. I simply don't have the time to think about you, not even a minute. I just want you to stay away from me and my girlfriend. You're not wanted in my life or hers"
"Not happening. Sia is my best frien-"
"Sia and I are nothing to you!"
His voice took a thunderous tone, forcing Sebastian to take a step towards us but I motioned him a no with my head. "You're no one to decide that" I said, masking the shake of my head to Sebastian with my words.
"I am. Let me remind you again that she's my girlfriend now s-"
"Doesn't give you the right to choose her friends. You don't want to stay in my life, I don't-"
He grabbed my elbows before I could continue and I was jerked forward, crashing to his chest. Things were certainly getting out of hand now. "I know you don't care if I stay in your life or not Trinity. I know you don't give a fuck about anything but your own selfish interests, but I'm not going to let you use Sia or anyone else in the name of friendship anymore"
I pulled myself out of grip before Sebastian could intervene between us. Nick pushed him aside before opening the door of his car and turning to me. "Stop using people to get rid of your loneliness and then throwing them away" He said. The car door slammed shut with that and the roar of engine followed.
