eddy's hand locked onto brett's wrist after a few minutes of walking down the beaten path of gravel that lead to an old park both friends had attended to many times before. they both hadn't noticed the contact between them as eddy led the way.

brett's mind was racing rapidly. he didn't know what to think or say besides the fact he let his best friend drag him to a place he hadn't thought about for a long time.

he knows he should run back home and discreetly enter his bedroom without any noise that could corrupt his parent's silence behind their closed door. he should leave eddy alone and let him ponder why he had to go in such a rush. or he could just polietly argue and go.

but he doesn't.

he shouldn't.

he couldn't.

instead, his feet walked along side his best friend, with eddy going just a bit more faster than what brett would have liked. he stared down at his moving legs, wondering what "news" does eddy have to share?

the walk soon ended when they approached their destination. they both stood still next to each other. brett did not want to move from his spot. he was terrified of what will happen next and even though he knows he shouldn't make a big fuss about it, he can't help but worry.

soft breezes of wind nipped at their skin. sending shivers down the older musician's body.

he felt out of place near eddy. he wore a black jumper with sweatpants to match it. he was wearing slides because he didn't think his journey would bring him to a park where sand would sneak his way into his socks. eddy was wearing quite the opposite. he wore a light washed jean jacket with a pink sweater underneath. he wore black jean shorts that he once accidently ripped on his thigh when trying to learn how to skate. that day had brett throwing fits of laughter his way.

eddy was always better then brett, at least thats what brett thought.

school, friends, the violin.

anything similar that was shared between the two, eddy always did it best. and he doesn't know that, but his doe-eyed friend does.

brett let out a breath he wasn't aware he was holding onto. he felt a light squeeze pressured on his wrist and looked down to see what could cause the action.

his hand was dangling from the grip of eddy's grabbing onto his wrist, slightly squezzing as if he needed reminder that his friend was still alive.

brett's cheeks burned a crimson red at the sudden realization. he suddenly felt hot underneath his clothing, itching to be free, but also scoot closer to the being near him.

"uh-um, why are we here e-eddy?" brett couldn't help but stutter. yet eddy hadn't once nocticed the cold skin that was gripped underneath his own.

eddy's eyes gazed over the playground and then finally turned to look at brett with a small smile placed on his lips.

instead of responding, he once again dragged them over to the swings that were a few feet away from the park.

both instantly sat on one, like they had done many times before.

the shorter friend immediately started swinging his legs to create the actions that would soon have him flying into the sky, then falling back down to see his feet dangling.

eddy simply swung back and forth slowly, not going full force as he used to do as well.

none of them said anything and sat there while hearing the creaks of the old swings go back and forth from their positions.

to break the silence, brett started the conversation lightly. "so, how's school been going?"

he internally groaned at his question. he sounded so much like his mother.

eddy didnt seemed fazed by his question, and instaead of his usual teasing he responded with a tone brett had never heard before.

"it's been" eddy took a long sigh, "wonderful."

the younger boy couldn't help but laugh at his best friend's reaction. he had never seen eddy so awestruck before, and though a part of him adored it, his laughter covered up his act.

eddy seemed a bit offended at brett, almost as if he wasn't fond of the other's response.

brett noticed the look and immediately stopped his fit. he didn't like when he hurt eddy's feelings. it hurt him more.

he cleared his throat and gestured his hands for eddy to continue his explanation. eddy looked at him with a blank face. the other squrimed beneath his gaze, he siddenly felt hot all over when eddy didn't let his eyes fall.

finally, eddy turned his head the other way, staring at the rusted playground instead.

"i'm going to my school's dance." he said.

brett's mouth gaped open a little bit, taken back by his best friend's words. eddy hated dances, always conplained how cliche and stupid it was.

though the shorter friend was fully aware it was because he had no one to go with.

numerous times brett had joked he would loop his arm around eddy's and be his date to make him somewhat feel better.

now thinking about it, brett wouldnt have mind walking into a small gym with his arm slung around his best friend's limb, but he knew no one would want to see such a sight.

all these new protruding thoughts kept forcing themselves in brett's head. as if a big sign inside his brain had letters forming "hey, come in and make your pal a bit confused!"

it was very worrying. not once had the musician contemplated being more than a buddy to eddy. it was absurd and different.

he shook his head and focused his attention back to eddy. he noticed the crease on his forehead, indicating eddy was in deep thought.

brett sighed a bit too loud, but enough to capture the attention of the younger friend. eddy turned his slightly to grab the eyes of brett's own brown orbs. they stared at each other for a long time, not once breaking the silence.

brett didn't feel uncomfortable as others would be under the gaze of his taller friend. instead he felt almost content, okay with the thought of him being the only able to read eddy's emotions with just a look.

after such a long silence, they both burst into a laughing fit. none of them could stay serious for too long.

for brett, he was afraid he may never want to look the other way.

"good for you." brett whispered. he laid his head down. he didn't want to see him because for some reason it was a bit hard to.

he heard rustling. feet landing on the sand. a shadow crept in front of him, and then a pair of legs.

suddenly, he was engulfed in a hug. a nice, warm hug. he didn't bother reciprocating, sat frozen still.

"thanks." eddy mumbled into his ear. the hot breath fanning his reddening ear.
