Chapter 4
Carl's POV
The girl stared at me. She looked surprised and confused. "So...uh...what's your name?" I asked, trying not to make things awkward. She opened her mouth but didn't say anything, then she quickly closed it again. I could tell that she was debating on trusting me or not. To be fair though I did save her life, not that it matters or anything like that. "Delanie, my name is Delanie" she said nervously.
"Don't worry, I'm not going to hurt you, I was out here and I saw you with those people, you looked like you were in trouble so" I said to try to calm her. She stared at me with anger in her eyes. "Those people were my family, my dad and older brother" she said with annoyance in her voice, "come on your going to help me get to them." She grabbed my forearm and started pulling me towards where her family and the horde went.
"DAD, CHRIS, DAAAAADD" she yelled. There was no response. She looked worried. She said we should split up to look.
I started walking towards where my camp was located. I wasn't planning on leaving her, I wasn't planning on going back, at least not yet. All of a sudden I heard a loud noise coming from the direction Delanie went. I stopped in my tracks to try to make it out but I couldn't. "YOU IDOT, THATS NOT A WALKER," I heard someone yell. I turned towards her direction and started running. The only thing that ran through my head was, please don't be dead, please don't be dead.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw someone near me, running in the same direction. They were taller then me but they ran the same speed. "OH GOD, OH GOD," I heard another voice yell. The other person and I started to both run faster. I could tell they were just as worried as I was.
I finally got to where I heard the voices and noises. I hid behind a tree as did the other person. Me and the person looked at eachother. It was a boy. He looked about 16 and when I saw his face I could tell he was more worried then me. We both looked towards the place where the noise came from, only to see something that I didn't expect.
There were two men there and a woman. One man had a shovel in his hand that had blood on it. He was being yelled at by the woman. The other man was kneeled down next to Delanie, who was laying lifeless on the ground. "Well she's not dead," the man that was examining her said, "just unconscious, but if we don't cover up this wound she might die." There was a cut on her forehead where, I was assuming, the man with the shovel hit her. The boy that was behind the other tree stepped out and towards the people. Everyone started talking at once. I couldn't make out any words. The boy had a pocketknife and had it pointed towards the people. I pulled my gun out and pointed it towards the people. I was ready to back the boy up. He was helping Delanie so I had to help too. The people pulled out there weapons and looked like they were ready to kill him. Everything was silent.
Then, BAM, there was a gun shot toward the people. It was Glenn. He had followed me after I ran from the camp. The bullet hit the man with the shovel in the head and he fell dead. There was one bullet after another, hitting each one in the head. I ran out from behind the tree only to be tackled by the boy.
Glenn came out and pointed his gun towards the boys head. "Hey, hey, hey, it's ok Glenn don't shoot" I said to him to make sure he didn't kill the boy. Glenn grabbed the boy by the forearm, pulled him off me, and pulled him to his feet. "What's your name" Glenn asked.
"My name is Chris, please don't kill me, I'm all she has left" he begged. It all made sense now. The boy was her older brother! "Glenn let him go" I ordered. Glenn glared at me and let go of his arm. Chris ran over to Delanie and lifted her off the ground. "Do you have a camp?" he desperately asked. He had tears in his eyes. I nodded and looked towards Glenn. Glenn looked back at me, "Fine we'll take them back, but when we get there you will have to answer some questions." Chris nodded and with that we all started running towards the camp.
