Chapter 2
Chris's POV
We ran down the street, dodging swinging arms and hands. We were passing so many people that needed help but our dad said to just keep going. Dad was in front of me and I had Delanie by my side. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a hand swing for her ankle and it caught her off guard. Her body slammed to the ground and the thing was pulling itself towards her. "DAD STOP, DELANIE, " I screamed as I was running over to save her. I flipped up my pocketknife and jabbed in into the things head. I dragged the lifeless body off her and pulled her to her feet. She clung onto me with an unexpected hug and we both ran towards dad. "Damn that was close, you know your lucky to have him" dad said to Delanie as he scanned her for bites. She smiled.
We all finally came back to reality and realized the world was still ending around us. I picked up mine and Delanie's bag and kept Delanie glued to my side as we ran. I couldn't let anything happen to her.
Dad finally found an empty car that he could actually get started and didn't have dead hanging all over it. We all climbed in and dad drove like he had never drove before. He hit those things, people, he was willing to hurt anything to get us out of this alive.
We stopped on an open road. Me and dad got out so we could scavenge and forced Delanie to stay in the car. Dad sat outside the car and told me I should go out on my own so he could make sure Delanie stayed safe. "I know it sounds like we baby her but from what it looks like it is the apocalypse and my children come first" dad said
"What about me, I'm only 16, I think it would be easier for me to watch her and you go out" I begged. Dad glared at me and I rolled my eyes and started down the road. I hope those things don't sneak up on me, I thought to myself, hopefully that would be the least of my troubles.
