A few days later in London Valarie was making her way downstairs when in the corner of her eye she noticed two letters on the floor. Curiosity filled her as she made her way to the letters. The young girl picked up the letters and found one addressed to her dad, the other to her. Carefully Valarie opened the envelope to reveal a letter from Michael. The young girl was so full of excitement that she had to read the letter at least three times to take it all in. Valarie was so eager to write back to Michael but she was about to visit her dad at the bakery. Quickly, Valarie ram and hid the letter in her bedroom and made her way to the bakery.

As Valarie entered the bakery she could sense the tension in the air but she didn't know why. Valarie began to worry as she saw a exit her dads office. The closer he got to Valarie the more she began to recognise him. He was the man who her dad went to Birmingham to meet. Without realising the mysterious man passed her and made his way out of the bakery. With fear Valarie ran towards her dads office.

The young Solomons burst through here dads office and rested against the door to catch her breath. Alfie didn't look up as he know who it was and who she saw.
"Who was that dad?" Valarie asked her dad.
"That man is who I met in Birmingham. He's called Tommy Shelby but don't worry about him our business will be done soon" Alfie told his daughter.
Valarie just nodded as she knew not to ask any more questions. The young girl then took out a random book and sat at Alfie's desk.

Meanwhile in Birmingham the Shelby family were going to the Epsom Darby. Everyone but Michael!. The young man was staying behind by the order of his mum. The sound of the telephone ringing echoed through the betting den. Michael ran to answer the phone.
"Hello" Michael answered the telephone "no I'm afraid Mr Shelby is in London. He can't be reached. No, he won't be back today. He's at the the races. The Epsom Darby. Can I ask who's calling?"
Michael put the phone down and turned around to face his mum.
"I'm going to the station" Polly announced.
Michael didn't reply he just went and sat at his desk. As he was about to start some paperwork Polly places some money on his desk. Michael just started at his mum.
"What's that?" asked Michael
"The money's yours" replied Polly "you take the money, you get a train and start a new life in London... I don't want to see you here when I get back... if I get back. Everything's an 'if' in this Birmingham life... you can write on Sunday's and visit on Holy days... but I want you to wash this city out of your hair and clothes... it's what I should have done at the start. Now I've got business to attend to" Polly then walked towards her son and placed her hand on his back. "I do love you Michael"
"I love you too" replied Michael "you'll miss your train"
With that Polly left to catch her train. Michael sank into his chair. He didn't know what to do. His mind then thought of Valarie; she was in London!. Him and Valarie could runaway together. Michael had to write to Valarie.

Dear Valarie,
My family have gone to the Epsom Darby today and I am stuck here working!. Can you believe that?. Anyway I am writing to you ask you to runway with me. I've recently come into some money, so we could buy a house, car or even some animals anything you want. I know we have only exchanged a few letters but you amaze me everyday. Let me know what you think. I'll meet you in London.
All my love
Michael

Michael put the letter in an envelope and placed it in his draw to post later.

Later that day when Valarie arrived home she raced to her bedroom to write a letter back to Michael. Valarie took out her letter set and started her letter.

Dear Michael
It's lovely to hear back from you. I was worried that you wasn't going to write back. I am pleased to say that I have finished the book you got me. It didn't that me long to read but I enjoyed every word on every page. If you want I will send you the book. You mentioned that you've been at work everyday but what is your job?. I don't have many book recommendations but I enjoy the Brontë sisters. I also enjoy Shakespeare especially The Tempest. While writing this I just thought that we don't really know anything about each other. Can you tell me about yourself?.
Yours Sincerely
Valarie Solomons
