Hearts Aglow

Chapter Three

Who else knows

"Katie?" I hear but its all echoed. "Kate?" I know the voice but I cant place a face to it. I'm so dizzy and confused. I try to open my eyes but I'm traped inside of myself and have no idea what's going on.

"Someone come help, please." The voice cries. I hear foot steps and screaming. The original voice seams to be sobbing. I try again to open my eyes but I'm blinded by light which forces them imedently back shut. "What happened?!?" A deep voice yells. "Miranda, did you do this, or see who did?" Im guessing they are talking about me. She must be the one crying. "She did, I dont know we were talking and she just ran here and started breaking things."

They keep talking but I don't even know what they are saying. I'm laying on my back and people are poking and probing me but I cant really feel it. I hear sirens and I want to jump up and tell everyone I'm fine and walk away with out anyone seeing my arm.

"Kate!" The sound of my mothers voice screams. "Kate honey wake up!" I am moved onto a platform and brought into a vehicle that I assume is an ambulance. I open my eyes for a split secound to see my mom and Miranda crying with doctors surrounding me as one yells. "Clear."

My head is pounding and I'm dizzy. My eyes flutter open and I take in my surroundings. I'm in a room with a lot of medical equiptment, so I'm guessing its a hospital. I look at my wrist which is covers in gauze. One less thing to worry about.

"Oh she is awake." I hear my mom say. She comes over to me and take my hand. "Hey how you feeling?" She ask. "Um I'm okay just thirsty." I reply. My voice is dry and shaky. "What happened?" I question while my mom gets a cup for me.

"Well Miranda said you ran away when she was talking and got hit by a car. Then she said you went into an ally way and started smashing things and screaming. She found you in a pile of glass covered in blood. Your hands and arms were cut up pretty bad. Then you went unconscious and your heart stopped. But everything is okay now." She explained.

"Okay." I say breathlessly. It was a lot to take in because I vagly remember it. "How long have I been asleep?" I ask. "About two days but I haven't left." " When can I go home?" I ask. The first thing I want to do is move away from here because everyone will know by now that I don't have the small insignificant heart. "Tomorrow if your feeling okay." She responds.

Time passes and its about noon when Miranda walks in with Haley. "Hey." Miranda whispers. "Hey." I reply. "How are you?" Haley asks. I want to tell her the truth. My head hurts but Im terrified of what people at school are going to do. "I'm okay." I lie.

"Everyone at school misses you." Miranda says. I doubt they actually do because they know I'm a freak now. "Okay." I awnser. They sit next to me an talk for a while about school and stuff ive missed. "I know." Miranda blurts out. "Its you that scarlet was talking about." She says. She looks nervously at Haley and then back at me. "In the ally I saw your arm and the heart wasn't there."

I look at Haley shocked and scared. "She told me that she knew, so I told her it was us talking." Haley says ashamed. I loom at her in disbelief. "Who else did you tell?!" I yell. "No one!" Miranda defends. "Well how can I trust you if you told Haley when you didn't know that she knew." Miranda starts crying. "I'm sorry but believe my I didn't tell anyone else!" "I think you should go." I say to Miranda but Haley starts to go too. "I'm sorry." Haley says. With that they both walk out of the room leaving me alone to cry.
