Back to school

I am finally home. Everything is the same here but I know it wont be at school. I haven't said anything since I arrived except a subtle hello to my dog. He jumped on me and kissed my face. He is German shepard husky mix so he is pretty big.

I flop down on my bed and grab a book. I don't even know what book it is I just read it. After about 2 minuets I realized it was the third Harry potter. I have a few book obsessions that's why I have a miniature library in my room. My mom walks in with Annie in one hand and a tray of food in the other. "I thought you might want something to eat, so I made some dinner." She says as she sets it on my bed and leaves.

I stare at the meal, some soup and bread on the side with a glass of tea. I eat some and leave the rest on my desk. I lay down on my favorite pillow pet and eventually fall asleep.

My alarm clock rings rapidly and I awake with a mini heart attack. I come to the realisation that I have school and I die inside. I get up and get dressed as usual then make my way out of my room to the kitchen. "Hey sleepy head." My mom says trying to sound cheery. "I made pancakes for breakfast if you want them?" She ask. Unaware I nod. "Don't forget you have school today." She says in more of a pitiful way. "I know." I wisper.

"I bet everyone missed you." She says reassuringly. "No they think I a freak." I reply. "Honey no one knows." She tries. "Yes they do!" I scream. " They all do, Miranda, Haley... and everyone else knows someone is a freak at school. Sooner or later they will know its me. They will know!" I break down and start sobbing. I know things will never be the same.

8:45 rolls around and I get in my moms car. "Its going to be okay." She assures, but she and I both know its not. The car ride is long and quiet. My mom keeps trying to say things like you'll be fine or don't worry, she dosent know my school or the people, word spreads like wild fire there.

I make my way down silent halls as I feel every single pair of eyes on me. All of a sudden there is a clap. I stop dead in my tracks. Another. Clapping roars through out the halls. I slowly spin to take in the scene. Everyone is still looking at me, not with detest but with sorrow, passion, and awe. They all smile and wish me well and welcome me back to school. Like I said word spreads like wild fire, but for once in a good way.

All through out the day I get the same treatment. Teachers, friends, and students I barley know or even not at all congratulate me or welcome me. Its weird because I have never stood out like this. With confidence I walk into 4th period and as usual, sit behind Jackson and across from Haley who seems happy to see me and hasn't stopped aplogising once.

We learn our lesson for the day and get started on the assignment. I continue to calculate in my head but I'm not really paying attention. All I can think about is how smoothly today went. Just then Jackson turns around and his eyes fall on mine.

"Hey, I uh heard what happend, and um are you okay?" He ask's sounding nervous. I just as stutters as he reply. "Um yeah I think so. except this math, I'm kinda confused." No I'm not why did I say that. "Oh this is easy, all you do is multiply then add or subtract." He smiles. "Thanks!" I say. Wrong, I think. Did I really just do that? Its like mean girls but I honestly don't want that ending.

Jackson focuses back on his paper and I on mine, or at least try. He is all I can think about. He actually talked to me. My mind floods with emotions and excitement. What if he was my mate? What if I didn't need a mark to know I loved him. What does that mark even do anyway? Except ruin my life.

I'm so lost in my train of thought I don't here the bell ring and Haley has to snap me out of it. "He is so flirting with you." She giggles. Maby things can be okay. Just maby.
