Entry #9

SKL: This is not a poem but a brief story of what happened last September 1, 2018——— a date I would never forget and forever embedded in my mind. I made this exactly one year later, on September 1, 2019.

======

September 1

It was Saturday morning
The rain was falling outside
The sky was gray
The air was cold
The road was wet
There's an event in my old school
Uninvited, we still came.

We came late, but too early for my former classmates' performance.
We watched
We waited
We ate
We sang.

My sister cried because of a boy
I knew you liked her
So I suggested to let you come
For just a playful revenge, I thought.
The whole time I was teasing you
But you just laugh and sang.

They said, "Let's watch a movie!"
It was titled, "The Hows of Us"
Without hesitating, you said yes
My best friend and I suggested we will buy the tickets
Surprisingly, you joined us.

We waited
We lined up
We entered the cinema
My best friend did not want to sit beside you
So I took the seat

In the middle of the movie,
People were crying
You asked me if I wanted a tissue
I said no
The movie ended
We decided to go home
At the exit gate, you and my sister hug
I waved you goodbye and smiled
You smiled back.

When we went home, something happened unexpectedly
You added me on facebook
I accepted your friend request
I left my phone and tease my sister to you
I came back with one message notification
It was from you.

Shocked, I said "Wrong send ka ata"
You replied, "No, Ikaw chinat ko."
I told my sister you messaged me
I asked if it's okay to reply
She said yes
And then we talked about my sister
And talked
And talked.

That's how we started, remember?
Exactly one year ago, you came here
Yet one year later, you were gone.
