TJ and Cyrus first met at the school playground, when they were five. It was easy for a friendship to blossom between them, and they only grew closer with time. TJ wasn't really sure when his feelings for his best friend had changed from friendship to something else, but by the time he was thirteen, he was fully aware of them.

Just as he was starting to work up the courage to confess, Cyrus confided in him about his crush on Jonah Beck. The insecurities that that brought to TJ's life were big, especially for a thirteen year old. Jonah was always so nice to everyone, he did great in all his math tests, and he had freaking dimples. TJ thought there was no way he could compete with him, so he did what any best friend would do. He was Cyrus' shoulder to cry on, because Jonah and Andi had a... thing? and because Andi was also Cyrus' best friend, he didn't want to bring her down when she looked so happy with Jonah.

It didn't take long for Cyrus' crush on the Ultimate Frisbee captain to disappear, but that didn't bring TJ's courage back. He was never going to confess to Cyrus.

Turns out, in the end, he didn't need to, because Cyrus himself beat him to it. Two years after he told him he didn't like Jonah anymore, now at fifteen, Cyrus had nervously told TJ how much he liked him at two in the morning, at a sleepover at the basketball player's house. TJ was ecstatic, hugging Cyrus so close he almost crushed the shorter's bones.

Now, two weeks into their relationship, they were having a pretty nice date at the spoon. His boyfriend looked great in his green button up shirt, and their feet were touching under the table as they waited for their order.

Soon, his sister, Amber, appeared with their orders. She placed the two milkshakes and their baby taters on the table, smiling and slipping in the seat next to Cyrus. Of course. Count on his sister to crash in their date.

It had been two weeks since they had started dating, and right now Cyrus was at a date at the spoon with TJ and... his sister?

Just like TJ, Amber and Cyrus had been friends since they were little. Things got a little awkward when her and Andi were in bad terms because of Jonah, but now they had all managed to get past that. He considered Amber one of his closest friends, he did, he just wasn't sure he wanted her on his date. But she was nice, and she brought them food, so Cyrus figured it wouldn't hurt to let her stay for a while, especially when she looked so excited.

TJ, on the other hand, seemed annoyed. He was shooting daggers at her from across the table, but the blonde girl didn't seem to mind, choosing instead to start a conversation. "I can't believe you guys are finally dating! It took you long enough. Ten years, huh?"

Ten years? Cyrus had only become aware of his feelings around two years ago, and even TJ had said he started liking him when they were thirteen. Cyrus turned to Amber, trying to understand her. "What do you mean?"

She threw her hair over her shoulder, a habit that was almost second nature by now. "Please. I've witnessed this love grow. You've been dating since you were five, you just didn't know it. Remember that time you guys got married?"

TJ looked equally as confused as Cyrus felt. "What are you talking about?"

"Oh my God, don't you guys remember that? I think it was kindergarten, or maybe first grade, and you wanted me to officiate it? On the playground?" Her statements sounded like questions, as an attempt to trigger the boys' memories.

As she instigated them, the events of that day slowly started to make their way back to Cyrus' mind, and judging by TJ's face, he was remembering things too.

TJ was playing in the sandbox, building a castle with his limited arrange of tools, that consisted of a small bucket and a plastic shovel. Cyrus thought it looked great. Everything his best friend did was great.

Maybe that's why six year old Cyrus thought it was a good idea to get married to him. He plucked a small flower from the flower bed near the sandbox and ran in the direction of his friend, careful not to step on the castle.

"TJ! Will you marry me?" He crouched down next to the blond and offered him the flower.

TJ looked up at him, smiling from ear to ear. "We're getting married?" He took the flower from the other boy's hand and held it close to his heart.

"Yeah!" Cyrus jumped up.

TJ followed suit. "Okay! We need someone to get us married then!"

The little brown haired boy pressed his hands to his cheeks. How could he have forgotten that part? He scanned the playground and found Amber on the slides. Perfect. He motioned for TJ to wait and ran towards his friend's sister.

"Hi, Amber! I need you to please marry me and TJ to each other." He offered her a smile. When the girl didn't respond, he specified. "Like, right now. We're getting married over there!" Cyrus pointed to where TJ was staring at them.

"I can't believe he's getting married before I do." The small girl rolled her eyes, but let the shorter boy guide her to where her brother awaited anyway.

"So, I didn't find a Rabbi, but I found Amber! I think it will do!" He explained to TJ as he raised the girl's hand up in front of them.

"A what?" TJ asked as they got into position.

Amber looked especially amazed by all of this. "You can do that? I didn't know two boys could get married! This is so cool!" She jumped up and down.

TJ wore a confused expression on his face as he brought a finger to his chin. "Oh yeah, I've never seen this either. I'm not sure if we can do that."

Cyrus felt his little heart sink and his lips quiver. "So you won't marry me?"

TJ stayed silent for a while before his face lit up. "I know! I can be the bride!"

Hearing her brother's words, Amber wasted no time. "Perfect! So, Cyrus, do you take TJ to be your wife?" She turned to him with a serious expression.

"I do!" His response was immediate.

"And TJ, do you take Cyrus to be your husband?"

"Yeah! I do!" He jumped up and down just like his sister had done a few moments ago.

"Then you can kiss now."

Cyrus approached TJ and got on his tiptoes. He put a hand between their mouths, pecking his palm as TJ pecked the back of his hand. It was so quick, Cyrus thought it had probably lasted less than a second. He felt his cheeks burn and he vaguely remembered holding hands with TJ the rest of the afternoon. They forgot about it by the next day.

TJ hid his face in his hands, but that wasn't enough to hide his smile. "Oh God, I was your bride!"

Cyrus chuckled at that. "Yeah. It is kinda sad we didn't know we could just both be the groom, but it was adorable, thinking back on it."

"It was." Amber chimed in. "Well, it was nice crashing your date while I could, but I should get back to work. Enjoy your baby taters!" She got up, ruffling TJ's hair before leaving. He immediately brought his hands up to try and fix the mess, but the damage was already done. TJ looked frustrated.

Cyrus took TJ's hands from his hair and rested them over the table, still holding them. "Don't worry, you look fine, Teej."

"Thanks, muffin." TJ smiled at him. For a while, they just stayed like that, looking into each other's eyes and enjoying the other's company. Until Cyrus broke the silence with a devilish smirk.

"Just out of curiosity thought, would I be able to get away with calling you my wife?"

"Ha. Don't you even try, underdog."
