She'd been baiting for my attention most of the morning, Caroline. She hadn't played a game like this in a very long time and I only thought it necessary to play along. I'd ignored her every advance; this morning in the bathroom when she bumped her ass against my groin while reaching for her toothbrush as I trimmed. Asking me how she looked once she was dressed in a sports bra and tights for her daily session of yoga. She'd also came into my study while I was working and sat in a chair to read a book...of course I had noticed the way her sundress had rode up her tucked legs and revealed that my wife had been pantieless. I almost caved then...almost.
I was enjoying her plight to seduce me. I could only imagine what she had in mind next. Tonight we'd been invited to a party to celebrate the engagement of one of my long-time colleagues, Benson Solomon. This wasn't the first one we'd been to either; he married and divorced like it was a hobby. It would get us out of the house...the drinks and food would be free.
"...But why can't I go with you, mommy?" Lydia was in the closet with Caroline when I walked out of the bathroom from a shower. The child was persistent...and pissed, I could hear it in her little tone.
"Because it's only for grown ups, sweetie. Grandma says she has a very fun night planned for you." I listened to their conversation as I went to the bed where I'd left my Rolex and snapped it back on.
"Alright," Lydia sighed and it surprised me that she was giving up the fight so easily. She never gave up. "That dress is really pretty, mommy and soooo sparkly." My daughter mused. I could hardly wait to get my eyes on it. She brought it home in a box yesterday evening when getting back from Penelope's.
"Thank you, baby. Why don't you go and find grandma now?" Ten seconds after the suggestion, Lydia ran from the closet and out of the bedroom without a glance my way. Time to get a peak at that dress, I thought and went to the closet.
Caroline was standing up from the chair after slipping into a pair of heels. My immediate reaction was to lift a brow. "You're not actually wearing that, are you?" It shouldn't have been a question. Sure, she'd worn low cut dresses before but this one...
"Why not?" I went to her and pulled her close against me. Her hair was up, flashing her pleasant throat that I wanted to lean down and kiss. I still felt like a jackass for hurting her when I thought she was seeing Turner. But after the shooting...I'd forgotten all about it. I made a note to apologize for my beastly behavior.
"I like it...Is it part of your little seduction plan?" I asked, lifting a brow. Caroline's cheeks turned a rosy shade and she gasped.
"I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Mhm. Let's go before we are late." I kissed her quickly and we left the closet. Nick was already waiting with the car in front of the house when we made it down.

"You've brought the perfect good luck charm, Specter." Benson said from across the poker table. He was drunk. Everyone was drunk. When Sol had announced that this party was at a gambling lounge I had lifted a brow. Extra. Sols's arm slid around my waist and he smiled, devilishly. I never, in all of the years that we had been together, came gambling with my husband.
Although it really wasn't my scene, I was enjoying myself-even if I couldn't drink anymore. Rich men in expensive suits walked around with women on their arms. The place was magnificent. There were naked dancers and half naked waitresses. Not a soul in sight had a fault. "That I did," He smiled down at me, eyes glazed from his few drinks. The way he looked at me every time I blew on the dice..."I didn't know you were so good at poker." I said to him. Sol chuckled before he leaned down to my ear and the way his fingers ran up my hip, had me shuddering.
