Bynnlynn Parker was jolted awake by a loud bang at the front door. Mind you, her bedroom was on the second floor so you can imagine how loud this knock had to be to wake up a teenage girl who enjoys sleeping in on Saturday's.

She threw on her pink floral robe over her pajamas and tiptoed down the creaking stairs. She heard soft sobs coming from her mother, and her father was talking to whoever was at the door. She peeked around the wall that separated her from the last few steps.

"For how long?" Her father asked the man at the door. "We don't know Mr. Parker," the man replied, his voice low and filled with concern. "I understand you are upset," he added. "But you knew," She saw the man cross his arms and suddenly look up to meet her eyes, he was older but not much older than her father with piercing blue eyes and silver hair.

She jumped back into hiding and quickly but quietly made her way back up the stairs. She heard their muffled voices creep closer as she shuffled her robe off and land into the bed pretending to be asleep.

A small knock came at Brynlynn's bedroom door, her mother entered alone closing the door behind her. She smiled softly as Brynlynn fluttered her eyes open as though she had just awoken from a restful sleep. She sat at the edge of her bed and patted Brynlynn's leg with sorrow on her face.

"What's wrong mother?" Brynlynn asked her. She was quite for a moment, "Well, I don't want to frighten you," she sighed, "but there are two men downstairs who need to take you," she saw her mother's jaw clinched. Her mother didn't know what else to say. So Brynlynn sat up and patted her mother on the shoulder. "It's alright, mum, I'll be fine," Brynlynn replied bravely. Her mother smiled, but not out of happiness. Her mother gave her one last hug and told her to pack her things and meet everyone downstairs.

When Brynlynn made her way down she was greeted by the two men who introduced themselves as Fang and Ratferd. Fang was the older man with blue eyes and Ratferd was a short, bald, and chubby man. "I'm ready," Brynlynn said trying to keep a smile on. She was still unsure of where she was going, but she trusted her parents.

She said her goodbyes and climbed into the car of two strange men. The men smiled and tipped their hats at the Parker's and started the car. Brynlynn climbed into the backseat with her belongings in the trunk waving goodbye one more time. Her mother didn't cry until the car took off.

"Can you tell me now?" Brynlynn finally asked. Fang chuckled, "You are not of the human world, Brynlynn," he looked in the rear view mirror to meet my confused eyes.

I laughed nervously, "What do you mean?" I said. "You where sent here by your biological parents, Ruth and Malcolm Murdock," he replied, "Elaine Parker, the woman you know as your mother is Ruth's sister, Ruth thought it'd be best if you were here with them," he said ending his response.

Brynlynn was confused and thought the man was too, but more of the crazy confused. She laughed and shook her head not saying a word again for the remaining 100 miles. The car stopped in the middle of the highway and the two men got out looking around at the sky. Brynlynn grew more concerned asking herself if her parents set her up with two serial killers. "Our ride is here, Brynlynn!" Ratferd shouted from outside the car and pointed to the sky.

Brynlynn looked up, at first it looked like a flock of birds, but the closer it got she realized it wasn't a flock of birds, it wasn't a bird at all. It was a carriage and at the front of it, six horses. They all soared gracefully through the sky until they landed perfectly on the paved highway.

Brynlynn slowly made her way out of the car, part of her wanted to run back to her parents and the other part of her was in awe.

"What are they?" She asked Fang. "They are pegasus ," he replied patting the head of one. But these did not look like the ones you see in movies or read about in books. They where midnight black, with eyes of fire, and a mane of copper.

"Well get in," Ratferd said shooing Brynlynn to the back of the topless carriage. "You are taking this quite well," Fang said climbing in and grabbing the reigns. "It's in her blood, yes, it's in her blood," Ratferd said chuckling sitting next to Fang.

Brynlynn ignored them still trying to process what was happening. The carriage took off into the evening sky, the sky was now an orange color and the stars began to peak through the clouds.

Brynlynn laid down in her seat looking up at the sky, she was afraid of heights but the soothing sounds of the wind and the cradling of the carriage sent her to sleep as Fang and Ratferd chatted away quietly.

Brynlynn's eyes flickered open to a pitch black night, the moon was hidden amongst the clouds. She looked over to see Fang still driving, or flying, whatever this was. No Ratferd though, maybe they stopped and he got off, she assumed.

Fang must have heard her rustling herself up because he peeked back from the corner of his eye and said, "finally awake, eh?" She simply nodded her head, "how much longer, Fang?" She asked scooting closer. Before he could replied, Brynlynn jumped back in fear with a small shriek.

"What?!" Fang asked protectively. "A RAT!!!" Brynlynn yelled pointing to front seat. By this time the rat woke up squeaking away. Fang laughed, "That's Ratferd!" He was laughing so hard now he could barley speak through tears.

She didn't understand what was so funny and she shrieked even louder when Ratferd turned back to his human form. "Well that's just rude, I never in my life..." Ratferd continued mumbling. "Ratferd and I are shapeshifters," Fang said casually, like this was normal or something.

"Oh, well forgive me for not being from fairyland, this is nuts!" Brynlynn replied sarcastically. "I'm dreaming, aren't I?" She asked folding her arms. Fang laughed more until they approached a water tower for a town Brynlynn's never heard of, Breen.

"We are here," Fang said he's demeanor changed completely. Fang stalled the horses and peeked over the edge. "Brynlynn this is very important," he looked to her with narrowed, serious eyes. "We cannot be seen by the evil ones," he looked back over the edge and Brynlynn caught a glimpse of red in his eyes. She looked over as well, slowly. What she saw was a kingdom on fire, the fire was unexplainable, huge, and covered hundreds of acres. "What happened?" She asked. "We can't discuss it here," Fang grabbed the reigns once more and dived straight towards the fire. Brynlynn let out a scream just as fang swooped past the fire and landing in front of a large tree.

She jumped out of the carriage and hugged the ground, "land," she panted. "Get up!" Fang whispered. She shuffled her way back on to two legs. "Inside, inside," Ratferd pushed her toward the large tree. It had a small wooden door.

They all three squeezed through the opening. Inside it was dark, Ratferd scurried to a nearby lamp and lit it. Brynlynn was shocked to see that inside the tree was a full sized house. The lamp shined brightly in the living room it had beautiful deep red couches with wooden end tables and a coffee table to match. "Wow," Brynlynn gasped in wonder. "We must be quiet, quickly come!" Fang said to Brynlynn who was nosing her way through the living room.

They made their way up a winding staircase that came off the living room. "Here," Fang said opening the only door that was up the stairs. It was a library, Brynlynn gazed in wonder as Fang shuffled through papers on a black desk. "Found you!" He exclaimed. Brynlynn turned to see him holding a small piece of paper, he began to read.

"A time is coming when the world will burn, evil beings will emerge and torment us, food will be scarce, you will not be able to leave in public but must do so in secret or the evil ones will do unmentionable things to you.
