    " he's your soulmate, dakota "

Her head was rested on a sturdy frame, her body flush against whoever was holding her. Dakota's skull felt tight, blood trying to recirculate back into her brain after passing out cold in front of the bar. She could hear distant voices, arguing, a hand placed to her face that immediately brought her back to life.

Dakota was met with a pair of hazel greens, glowering with concern as she comes to. His calloused hands, surely from strangling his victims, caress her cheeks fondly, coaxing her to come back to him. She groans, holding a hand to her head as she speaks, "what happened?"

And almost as if her brain wanted her unconscious again, the memories of the conversation between the two supernaturals rang through her mind, taunting her, reminding her about her and Klaus's inevitable fate. Dakota had finally got her answer, one that she wasn't particularly fond about, but nonetheless gave her some form of closure. Although Klaus was the last person she wanted to spend the rest of her days with, she still felt that connection; the love. It all explained why she was wanting to cling to him despite his actions, why she so badly wanted to kiss him and be in his arms forever. Mates. The word felt like glass against her skull, cutting her, etching that word violently into her subconscious forever. She'd be his.. forever.

"She's alright.. you can let her go now." Her twin brother comments as Dakota sits up in Klaus's arms. The hybrid was so distracted by his mate in distress, he hadn't even realized the oldest Salvatore was present.

"I see they've opened the doors to the riff-raff now." The original murmurs, his arms still locked around Dakota; and oddly enough, she was enjoying it.. The warmth.

"Oh, honey, I've been called worse." Damon retorts.

"You don't give up, do you?"

"Give me my brother and sister back...You'll never have to see me again." The twin answers, raising his hands in surrender.

"Well, I am torn. You see, I promised Stefan I wouldn't let you die, but how many freebies did I really sign up for? And clearly you want to die, otherwise you wouldn't be here, so..." Klaus trails off, clutching his lover tightly.

"What can I say? I'm not too keen on the idea of your werewolf germs on my baby sister. Mates or not, she's coming with me. And that includes Stefan." The Salvatore challenges, his demeanor cold.

Klaus quickly vamps over to the oldest sibling, his hand wrapped around his throat as Gloria speaks. "And kill the beloved Dakota Salvatore? Pity, Damon. You really haven't caught up on your supernatural research, have you?"

Dakota, now to her feet, glances curiously over at the witch, "what's that supposed to mean?"

"Now that we've connected.. we've touched.. I've spent time with you.." The hybrid squeezes the Salvatore's neck, "our souls have already intertwined to the point where we will no longer want to be away from each other.. and if that bond is severed once again.. one of us will die."

"This is insane." Dakota breaths, shaking her head.

"No, it's destiny-" Klaus stabs her brother with a toothpick, "Oh, dear, what was that? I'm boozey, so you'll forgive me if I miss your heart the first few tries." Damon grunts, "Ohh! No, that's not it. Hmm."

"Stop!" Dakota could no longer stand the sight of her twin in pain, halting the process by placing her hand on her mate's shoulder, "Klaus, please, he just wants his siblings safe."

"Yeah you want a partner in crime? Forget Stefan, I'm so much more fun." Damon retorts weakly, his voice gruff.

With his mate's calming touch and words snapping him from his rage, he tosses Damon backwards with a grunt; the man crashing through the table on his back. Klaus walks over and rips a piece of the broken furniture off, crouching just before the Salvatore. "You won't be any fun after you're dead."

Just as the hybrid goes to stake the older twin, Dakota jumps in front of him, the wooden weapon lodging itself in her shoulder with a painful groan. Klaus freezes as the blue eyed girl doubles over in pain, her teeth clenched as she rips the death trap from her wound. She drops it roughly, helping her brother to his feet as she spits, "you were going to kill him.. how could you?"

With no response, she scoffs, "some soulmate you are. If you think I'd want to spend the rest of my life with a monster like you, you're wrong. Go to hell."

Dakota sits outside of the bar, her eyes swollen with emotion as she cries. Miraculously, Klaus didn't put up a fight when she refused to talk to him and instead take some air as she felt the onslaught of a panic attack bubbling up inside.

She is his mate. And without him, she'd die. All of that took a huge toll on her mental health, one that was already deteriorating rather quickly, and with the increasing pressure and feeling she felt for a man who she could hardly look in the eye, Dakota didn't know if she would be able to stand it longer.

"Hey."

Her twin brother's voice brought her from her clouded thoughts, catching her attention as the siblings locked gazes. Dakota frowns, wiping the pathetic tears from her cheeks as she shook her head. "Hey, I'm sorry, I'm just- I-"

"Hey-" Damon waves her off, rubbing her back, "there's no need to be sorry for what you're going through. Fuck, sis, you're mated to a delirious original hybrid who would probably murder you if he got the chance-"

"Gee, thanks for making this a lot easier." The blue eyed girl grumbles, rolling her eyes.

Damon stays silent, merely glancing at his twin who looks to broken, so beat. He was so used to seeing such a strong woman, afraid of absolutely nothing. But, he could tell this news was affecting his twin; she was scared. Hell, he was too. They spent months hating this hybrid, the one who turned their baby brother into a ripper, and for his sister to be destined to love him.. scared him. "I don't blame you for wanting to be with him, you know-"

Dakota glances at him weirdly, haven't mentioned anything of that sort, "but, I-"

"He's your soulmate, Dakota." Damon starts, "and as Gloria and that douchebag said, without each other you'd go crazy. You will die. And I could see the way he makes you feel, that spark.. like he's the only man you ever wish to be with again. Trust me, Dakota, I know that this is hard for you. You have a choice to make, and I want you to make the right one: staying with Klaus. Maybe you'll knock some sense into him."

The raven haired girl's tears fall carelessly, this vulnerable moment needing to be shared with her twin as he described her thoughts more clearly than she ever could. Dakota falls into Damon's arms, she sobbing into his shoulder as he comforted her quietly, a tear slipping passed his strong demeanor; he was crying for his sister, for bringing her into this mess. "I'm so sorry, Kota, so so sorry for bringing you into this mess. I should've left you alone."

Dakota smiles softly, pulling away from her brother and wiping his lone tear, "the best thing that's ever happened to me was you guys. Don't ever forget that. I'm glad I could see you two, despite our situation. Without you, I wouldn't have found what I was looking for.. even if it's going to take some work: love."

"I'll find away to make this work, Dakota. You and Stefan aren't getting off the hook this easily." The blue eyed man reassures, "I love you, sister, we'll see each other again."

Dakota bites back a loud sob, closing her eyes and enveloping her sibling in another hug, "I love you too, brother. Now go save Stefan."
