If it didn't stop soon, he'd never get to sleep. A groan escaped him as he hid his head under the pillow as the screams began to fill the air once more. When would they stop?
But it was only part of a reoccurring nightmare, wasn't it?
Yes, it must be. The screams, they stopped. Finally! Pure blissful silence!
He relaxed and let go of the pillow, closing his eyes as he slid the item back under his head, reaching over to pull the teddy bear with the mismatched eyes closer. It always brought him a sense of peace.
He smiled, nuzzling the bear and looked over the worn down item, one blue eye and the other an old, battered button.
"I'm watching you closely, Mister Bear," he whispered then giggled softly, poking the busted nose of the bear. He tensed quickly looking towards the door and closed his eyes pretending to be asleep when he heard footsteps out in the hall stop in front of his door, then sighed when the footfall faded down the hall.
"That was close wasn't it?" he whispered to the stuffed toy then smiled. "It's almost like a riddle, isn't it? A riddle with no answer! That's what this all is! They ask so many weird questions, it makes my head hurt and I can't answer them. But I guess it's okay. I know the questions will stop once brother is home! He always makes everything okay! Do you think... Do you think maybe tomorrow he'll come?..." he asked looking at the bear again as he ran his fingers along the reddish brown stains, a soft frown touching his lips when he realized that he couldn't remember where they came from, but it didn't really matter did it?
He sat up when he heard a knock at the door, a bright smile crossing his lips as he hugged the bear tightly. "Do you think it's brother? Do you think he's back?!" he squeaked as he turned towards the door, though his smile faded slightly only to quickly return. "Oh it's time!" he said as he slid to the edge of his bed, taking the offered cup. "Wait, this isn't right. This isn't my normal candy," he said looking up at the woman in front of him curiously before the fear set in. "Wait who are you? Where's Lisa? Where's my brother? What did you do to them?!" he screamed as he lunged at the woman in front of him, her screams filling the air before he blacked out.
When he came to, he touched his head and whimpered faintly when he saw the blood on his fingertips but quickly calmed down as he pulled the stuffed toy to his chest. "We're going to be okay Mister Teddy," he said looking down at the new red stains on his white clothes. "We need new clothes now, but that's okay! We can-" he stopped as he looked behind him at the burning hospital. "We need a new home, but that's okay too! We're always okay!" he laughed and hugged the bear tighter.
He hummed to himself as he skipped down the path, stopping by the gravestone with his brother's name on it. He settled next to the stone and looked up at the sky, humming happily as he rocked back and forth.
"Sammy I played the game again. The one I played with you so long ago! But so much red came from her and it was scary. And she screamed just like the screams I told you I hear in my dreams. But it's okay, you'll come home right? I know you were young when we played the game but you'll come back and we can go home together! Maybe the nice lady will bring some more candy and she can bring some for you too!" he laughed as he rocked back and forth going between fits of laughter and humming, holding the bear tighter to his chest in the process.
